A memorandum from the United States Bureau of Fisheries warns that current protections for Columbia River salmon are insufficient. It urges artificial propagation alongside restricted gear, seasonal closings, and state cooperation to prevent industry collapse and job losses.
A political ballot item Hill No 838 is criticized for serving a single locality, opposing government recommendations, and imposing heavy state taxes. The text urges a NO vote with the notation VOTE %33-X-NO.

Nellie Brogan aged 18 of Antelope dies May 22 1908 after a long illness. Her body was taken to The Dalles for burial in the Catholic cemetery last Sunday. She was a sister of Mrs J C Robinson who left for Antelope upon news. The Brogan family mourns two other daughters lost in the past year.
The Madras Oil and Gas Company will sink its first well on the Joe Taylor place near La Monta, now owned by Oscar Cox. Drilling equipment has been moved to the site on the west side of Grixzaly Mountain after a thorough survey by expert Mr. Ross. Oil indications are favorable with years of seepage observed at the location.
Alma B. Lee and Samuel Vance Richardson wed at the bride’s parents home on May 24 1908 with Rev J D Brown officiating. About 16 guests attended the ceremony and a dinner followed. The bride is daughter of James and Mrs Lee, the groom a young rancher with a Madras homestead who will reside there.
