Road Train May Be Tried Again in Central Oregon

Alex Thomeson of Prineville and partners promoted a traction freighting project that failed last fall when a big traction engine could not operate on roads to Shaviko. Holt Manufacturing may attempt another trial in spring, with Crook County firm undecided on accepting the outfit. If proven workable, Thomson and associates would be glad to take the property for freight needs.

Ice harvest and sale in Madras market during cold spell

Bud Melds gathered about ten tons of ice during a cold spell this winter and sold the entire load to the Madras Meat Market which will store it for use later. Mr Fields capitalized on a brief freeze to put up a small supply, the only ice produced locally. Others delayed for colder weather and now face empty ice houses as winter ends.

Agency Plains Farmers to Organize Union Meeting

A meeting of farmers on Agency Plains is called for next Saturday evening at Branstetter schoolhouse to organize a branch of the National Farmers Cooperative Union of America. The group seeks to aid members in buying and selling, educate in scientific farming, discourage credit and mortgage systems, and standardize farming practices and product pricing.

Small Boys Burned by Gunpowder Explosion

Harald Kiddle and the son of Mr. Filey were badly burned last Wednesday when they touched a match to a powder-filled container near a fraying pen. Harold Waddle suffered severe facial burns and eye swelling, requiring bed rest and medical care. The Filey boy sustained burns but not as serious as his companion.

Christian Church To Be Built Soon After Moon Revival

Elder E E Moon conducted revival meetings in Prineville drawing interest to construct a Christian church there. A building committee was formed with T B Tucker as chair and members G Springer J Q Robinson Wesley Hin W A Maddren Mrs D McTaggart and Mrs Fred Davis. A financing committee includes OC Robinson J W Robinson and D W Adams.

John McCourt Named United States District Attorney

Pendleton attorney John McCourt is appointed United States District Attorney for Oregon to replace W. C. Kristol. The appointment follows Congress delegation actions with objections leading to withdrawals, and McCourt’s Oregon roots are highlighted as favorable.
