Assignment of Robinsons to Sabin Overseen by Portland Official

J W and M A Robinson and Company assigned all property to R L Sabin of Portland for creditors. Assets exceed liabilities and the move is described as temporary with plans to resume business in about sixty days. Wil liam Macbeth acts for Sabin while Sabin heads the Merchants Protective Association of Portland. Local customers react with hope for rapid settlement and return to normal operations.

Petition seeks new county road from Madras to Lamonta

Tilman Reuter leads a petition to the county court for a southeast extension from Willow Creek to Lamonta and Willow Creek areas. The route would intersect Rim Rock Spring road, shorten travel from Madras to Lamonta, aid Willow Creek and Grizzly sawmills, and require only small county funds.

Large 56 inch irrigation pipe completed across old river bed

The 1620 foot pipe built by Deschutes Irrigation & Power Co across the old river bed to irrigate 12,000 acres. It required two carloads of lumber and one car of hoop iron with freight from Shaniko totaling 1900. The completed pipe cost 10,000 dollars and is expected to last twenty years.

Moro Fire Devastates Elrod Building in Sherman County

A two story brick Elrod building in Moro suffered a major blaze last Friday morning. Fire spread risk to nearby structures but ice formed on adjacent roofs helped halt further damage. Estimated total loss about 47000 with 30000 insured. Cause is thought defective wiring. Several tenants burned out with large losses including W F Schuller 25000 loss 15000 insured ME E Miller 1600 loss 740 insured Dr James loss unknown insured 800. building valued around 16000 with 7000 insured.

Well Drilling Progress Near Opal Prairie

I V Limbaugh of Opal Prairie reports drilling to about 165 feet on his land with hard rock layers encountered. No water yet but indicators are favorable and crews may extend to four or five hundred feet. Several local ranchers await the Limbaugh well before pursuing their own water searches.

Trans Missouri Dry Farming Congress Closes in Salt Lake City

The Trans Missouri Dry Farming Congress ends its second convention in Salt Lake City with about 600 attendees from 252 delegations. It inaugurates a salaried secretaryship annual dues and life memberships and forms a bureau of information to teach arid land science. It seeks limited legislation including larger homestead acreage and more experimental wells.

Death of A. H. Breyman in Portland

A. H. Breyman died in Portland last week after over six months of illness and facial neuralgia. He was known in Crook County for stockraising and organized the Baldwin Sheep & Land Company at Haycreek in 1885. He moved to Portland in 1900 and started in wholesale leather as Breyman Leather Company.

Dollar a dozen for Oregon apples

A Kansas farmer in Topeka sought Oregon apples at J Weiss & Co on Kunsae avenue. He asked the price, pocketed the sum, then went to the bank to withdraw money. Upon return he bought a dozen apples, remarking they looked splendid.
