Mount Hood Railroad Buys Laidlaw Site for Transcontinental Link

Mount Hood Railroad and Power Company has purchased the Laidlaw townsite in Crook County as part of plans to build an electric line across Oregon connecting with the Moffat road from Denver. The project aims to create a double-track 60 mph route from Portland to the Cascade summit with strong power generation, tunnels, and extensive right of way work ongoing amid legal disputes and court battles.

Death of Cline Pally foreman found in flume

Ed Hurlburt, foreman at the Cline Pally ranch on the Deschutes River, was found dead in the flume above the power plant last Saturday evening. An inquest gave verdict of heart failure or accidental fall with a forehead bruise. death not due to drowning. He was 25 to 30, worked alone, and his body was taken to Umatilla County for burial.

Ex-Mayor Seeks Purchase of Columbia Southern Stock

Van B. De Lashmutt, former mayor, negotiating to buy a majority of Columbia Southern Irrigating stock. Sale hinges on exchanging about 3500 in bonds for stock as part of last spring’s reorganization. Merry Christmas Celebration at Sanford Hall

Christmas Eve exercises were well attended despite bad weather. A decorated tree, gifts distributed by old Santa Claus, and treats of candy and coffee followed a short program. The crowd dispersed after greetings and carols, though the day’s snow fell softly.

The Central Oregon Development Company plans a large pond on the Lisemore tract to attract five major lumber mills. Banker French is Dead in The Dalles Oregon

Joshua W. French senior member of the French Co. banking firm in The Dalles died at his home aged 77 from Brights disease. He settled in The Dalles in 1904 from New England and established a pioneer bank. Survived by wife two sons Edward and Vivian and daughter Mrs Golton.

Road Washout Blocks Stage Route in Cow Canyon

Heavy rains washed out the stage road in Cow Canyon stopping the Shanike to Madras mail run yesterday. The Helster stage could not make the trip and delivery may be delayed until tomorrow. Residents accept the delay as rain-driven but hope for resumed service this winter without further disruption.
