County canvassing board last Tuesday issued the official total for Crook County nominating ballots. Precincts failed to provide detailed breakdowns though totals reflect the full county count. James Rice ran unopposed for Commissioner and his votes were not broken out by precinct.
Tron H M Cake of Portland defeated Senator C W Felton for the U S Senate nomination by 2000 to 3000. W K Ellis re nominated in the second district over Geer and Shepherd by a large margin. Other nominees include Robert Bean for State Supreme Court Dairy and Food Commissioner J W Bailey and Railroad Commissioner B Aitchison. In the seventh judicial district Fred W Wilson was nominated prosecutor over W P Myers. Wilson carried Wasco and Crook counties by wide margins.
The contract for the new court house at Prineville has been awarded to Jobu B. Shipp as the lowest bidder. The total cost, including remodeling and supervision, is $72,500 with $16,500 tied to basement and foundation and $2,500 withheld for alleged defects. The building will be gray stone and completed within one year amid reports of foundation defects and necessary rebuilding.

Voters faced a stormy day as 80 percent turnout produced close races in Prineville precincts. Republican picks include H C Ellis for County Judge and Dayton for Assessor, King for Treasurer, Ford for Superintendent, Rice for Surveyor, with Bevin Sheriff and Rice as Commissioner also chosen. Democrats nominate Congleton for Sheriff and Lafollette for Assessor.
Edith daughter of Mr and Mrs Colburn McPherson of Hayereek died at Good Samaritan Hospital Portland on Wednesday morning April 16 after illness at home. She was aged years. Body brought home for burial and interred last Sunday at Waycreek in a large gathering. Pastor R A Moon of the Madras Christian church led the funeral services.
To celebrate the anniversary the Odd Fellows invite attendance at the April 23 gathering in Madras with River-ville and Laidlaw lodges to join in the event. John A. Tammargart N G T A Long secretary announce details and expect a good turnout.
Mather Thickey rector of outside missions in Sherman and Wheeler counties requests the proclamation to announce his fast visitations in Crook county next weekend and the week after. He will go to Willow Creek Prineville Paulina Bend and Madras inviting local Catholics to join Easter duties and services.
