Paris reports diplomatic circles doubt Allies seek to martyr the ex Kaiser. Extremists and international lawyers urge extradition trial and execution, but many believe he may return to Germany voluntarily when the people show political reform.
Cleveland dispatch reports every street car in the city halted as 3000 street car men walked out demanding the company stop employing women as conductors. The stoppage began this morning and left the streetcar system idle across Cleveland.
The local draft board will not handle demobilization of selected soldiers as directed by Provost General Crowder. Relatives petitioning for earlier muster out are powerless. Private Clarence Ashby is listed absent without leave from West Point Kentucky since November 7, attached to Battery D of the 67th Field Artillery. Records must close by December 10, with headquarters remaining open until further notice. First Lieutenant Johin E Nresse, formerly with the Chief of Engineers in Washington, has mustered out and been appointed Telephone and Telegraph Engineer for the Big Four and Cincinnati Northern railroads. Based in Indianapolis, the Purdue University engineering graduate is welcomed by Marison friends.
Mrs Elizabeth Pierce 58 employed at the Valentine Heitz sawmill in China was pinned by a circular saw while calling workers for dinner. Her dress shredded, she suffered a broken right leg and narrowly escaped fatal injuries after the engine was halted. She is improving. Dr W R Matthews of China attends.
At ten o'clock this morning the spirit of J M Ryker left his home after a week-long illness from pneumonia and heart disease. A Modern Woodman and Baptist Church member, he contributed to church and Sabbath school and to the community. Funeral arrangements to be announced.
Telegram from the War Department confirms the death of Sergt Hayden Shelton of Trimble county Kentucky. Attested in Co A Louth Reg 84th Infantry he was 22 and had been in France since last August. Parents Ezra and Mrs Shelton receive the news with sorrow and many friends extend sympathy.
