After 21 years as deputy postmaster Charles R McLelland resigns effective July 31 at Madison. Postmaster Lawter has not named a successor. Civil service options include promoting a clerk or holding a special exam open to those 18 to 45 who handle mail. The postmaster will choose the top three testers by average.
