Macomb Firm Gains Noted Success at Iowa State Fair

Macomb Manufacturing Company reported strong interest in its Macomb Medicated Hog Oil at the Iowa State Fair. A. H. Foster noted many breeders used the product, including grand champion hogs from Duroc and Poland China breeds. The firm, expanding to over 100 field representatives, runs a sales contest from Sept 1 to Mar 1 with monthly prizes and a Ford roadster for the top agent.

Giant sun flower draws crowds at By-Stander office

Fred Knight of East Washington Street brought a sunflower from his potato patch. The flower measures 14 inches in diameter and the plant towered over observers with reports noting a 16 ft 6 in height for the stem. Spectators described it as tree sized while debating its potential lumber yield and seed quantity.

Sons of Rodgers and Zern Return From Annapolis Visit

Robert Rodgers and Shelton Zern arrived home from Annapolis Maryland where they study at the United States Naval Academy. Robert will stay until the 28th while Shelton leaves early to return for football work. They recently cruised aboard the U S Ship Minnesota visiting Hawaii Cuba Panama and other locations. Howard Knowles arrives from Berkeley for a visit after earning an AB degree at the University of California and plans to attend Harvard graduate school this winter.

Chicken Thieves Take 150 Leghorn Chickens Near Colchester

Thieves stole 150 White Leghorn chickens from Rollie Solomon southeast of Colchester. Chickens weighed 21 1/2 to 31 1/2 pounds each. loss estimated at 150 to 200 dollars. Solomon reported to the sheriff. no arrests yet as authorities investigate.

Macomb Street Oiling Priced Per Block At 47 Dollars

The Commercial Association and County Highway Superintendent W M Bonham carried out street oiling in Macomb on Thursday at 47 dollars per block for two coats and 23 50 for one coat. A car with 6 608 gallons costing 634 63 covered about 13 5 blocks. Debtors must pay Bonham at the courthouse office.

Free Methodists to Hold Annual Session in Macomb

The Central Illinois conference of the Free Methodist church opens in Macomb next Wednesday September 8 with Bishop Warner of Chicago presiding and President E. G. Burritt of Greenville attending. Delegates tally about 175. daily sessions run 8 to 11:30 each morning with afternoon and evening preaching. Meals are provided in the basement of the Universalist church. rooms for delegates are scarce and volunteers are urged to contact Rey, Sala or Ray.

An American Legion meeting is set for Monday night in the Macomb Commercial association rooms. The main item is the delegate’s report to the state convention in Chicago.
