W KR Smith of Macomb purchased from Ambrose Harlan a fine 84 acre farm in New Salem township for 300 dollars. Smith will not move to the property, buying it as an investment. Hermans Asplund brokered the deal.

Washington Oct 25 final repeal of the excess profits tax on January 1 was forecast after the Senate defeated an amendment to retain the tax at present rates. The 39 to 28 vote saw four Republicans join Democrats. Senator Reed Missouri proposed another plan to continue the tax at about half the current levels as debate paused for a final roll call tomorrow at 4 p.m.
Ira Hitz of Plymouth reported his Ford touring car license 81156 stolen from in front of Collins Plow company at 200 block North Sixth street. The car was found burning on Vine Street near Second and Third, likely set incendiary. no witnesses nearby as firemen fought the blaze.

Mc Donough County Post No. 6 adjutant L. B. Eason names members who intend to attend the national American Legion convention in Kansas City. The first seven are firmly decided. four are unsure. The Macomb Rotary Club announced Dr Charles C Barker would lecture in Macomb on November 3. Barker, an authority on hygiene and physical culture, is noted as one of the world's great health speakers and currently works with Rotary. A fuller sketch of his work and the lecture plans will appear tomorrow.
