A mentally ill man, aged 87, held in custody this week after a disturbance at a cafe near town. The incident led to an original charge of assault and battery and a court hearing was held to determine the next steps for care and confinement.

Washington October 19 Secretary of Agriculture Meredith told the American Bankers Association that a sharp fall in farm product values this season will leave American farmers about 32.5 billion dollars short of what they would have earned at old price levels. He cited a roughly one billion dollar loss from corn and a one third billion drop from cotton.
