Philander C Knox of Pennsylvania sought to succeed the late Senator Quay. As attorney general he prosecuted trusts and rail rebates and led a landmark government suit against the Northern Securities merger, winning in the U S Circuit Court after a lengthy fight from 1902. Born May 6 1853 in Browns Mills Pa he studied at Mount Union College and was admitted to the bar in 1875.
A 1920 model Ford touring car owned by Alice Bland of Emmet township was stolen from in front of Citizens' Bank around 2 pm and later found in front of the Elks club after the sheriff was notified. Another Bland Ford was stolen months earlier and found deserted on the road between Bushnell and Prairie City.
