Will Binnie notified Mayor McLean that the 500 block on East Washington Street pledged to repair pavements. This is the second block to report after the 400 block. the first reporting block will have its pavements repaired first.
A report details a local escape and assistance for soldiers including money advanced for compensation, hospital gifts, and logistics. Separately, Chicago Board of Trade ends indemnities trading ahead of Capper-Tinchner Act, reducing grain futures activity.
A near miss by burglars at the Fellheimer store led to installing heavy steel bar grating over all rear windows and doors. Robt. Ferrill built the grates in the brick wall and Henry H. Fuhr did the wood work, making future break in attempts far less likely.
The Lombard college athletic stadium was opened yesterday afternoon during a football matchup with Palmer college of Davenport Iowa. The contractor will hand over the stadium to President Tilden and college officials at halftime, marking a notable addition to Galesburg.
The Union National Bank official J. W. Bailey tops the field in late season fruit competition. His family has had two new messes of asparagus in recent days as growers contemplate records.
The will filed in Macomb bequeaths the fine residence at 701 West Adams Street to Miss Especia Kirkbride daughter of the late Mrs. Mary E. Kirkbride who died here August 15. An accompanying inventory is included with the will.
Macomb High School leads Peoria Manual 21 to 0 at third quarter on home field. Spahr scored in the first quarter, Murphy added the extra point, and a 30 yard pass from Murphy to Bolen highlighted the period. In the second quarter Spahr added a rushing TD from the one yard line with Durr and Spahr advancing the ball, Murphy adding a goal.
Mayor B F McLean will issue a proclamation urging Macomb residents to cooperate in Fire Prevention Week from October 9. The mayor will publish Governor Small’s proclamation and distribute copies to schools and institutions. The aim is to cut fires caused by carelessness and ignorance through a week of cleaning and hazard reduction.
State highway officials expect little choice between two viable routes north from Macomb as work on a state hard road to the county line is planned to start next spring. Col. C. R. Miller says advertising for bids may begin in late fall or winter, with construction in 1922.
Mrs Millicent Reitzel of Galesburg visits Macomb today staying with Rev and Mrs Jno R Vance on East Jackson. She is in her second year at Knox College Conservatory of Music and teaches Latin at Galesburg High School.
The funeral for George D. Coz will be held tomorrow at 1 30 p m from Martin Chapel conducted by Rev A L Cole. Interment will be at Vermont. Friends are invited.
