A new display case was installed at the Weide studio. The showcase appears larger than the previous unit and is now in use, replacing the older display.
Macomb churches organize a non sectarian Vacation Bible School at the high school starting the first Monday in June. Twenty four days of activities include Bible and missionary stories patriotic themes and hymn singing with manual training crafts and calisthenics. Free tuition books and materials are provided by churches.
High school and Teachers' College Academy track squads head to La Harpe for the Tri County Fair Tri County meet drawing Hancock McDonough and Trenderson counties. First such event by La Harpe boys, six to ten runners per school expected with uncertain prospects for records.
Miss Edna J. Hill, once of Macomb and long involved in missionary work in Honolulu, spoke at the Macomb Rotary Club about conditions for Americans there. She noted the sizable Japanese population and the resistance of its leaders to social changes.
Miss Hill notes Native Hawaiians pick up American manners quickly and are eager to adopt them. She recites humorous incidents, making her talk entertaining and informative.
Des Moines May 19 Rev Calvin Hays of Johnston Pennsylvania was elected moderator of the 134th general assembly of the Presbyterian church on the first ballot with only one other candidate in the running. Bryan was not present due to his wife's illness. Rushville Presbytery is represented by Rev Harvey Mullan Rev O D Slater Elder Will Tumey and A P McHenry.
Graduates from East and West Bushnell elementary schools staged their annual eighth grade graduation in the high school auditorium. The program featured a prayer by Rev. L. Bernie Shell, choruses, readings by Elza Schultze and Helen Russler, vocal and violin solos, a musical reading by Eloise Cox, and diplomas presented by Prof. T. W. Everett. Benediction by Rev. Shell.
Investigation of Rudolph Valentino and Winifred Hudnut follows question whether bringing Hudnut back to California, while Valentino was still married to actress Jeane Acker, violated the Mann White slave act.
The Batolph High School commencement exercises will be held next Monday evening with Prof Slollister from Illinois University delivering the commencement address. The baccalaureate sermon will be preached by Rev R W Stocking at the M E church next Sunday night. Graduates receiving diplomas include Edithe Louise Baer Louise Heek Harold Tinsley Smith Arleigh James Smith Frank Ray Douglas Minnie Juanita Spangler Hazel Irene Hinman Edna Merle Kelso Mable Lucille Kelso.
The Macomb high school gym hosts a two day art exhibit opened at 10 a m inviting the public to 10 p m displays of paintings pencil work interior decorating costumes and mechanical drawings by grades and junior high students plus notable manual training and household arts pieces. The show highlights student skill across disciplines including dresses culinary items and handmade furnishings with the By Stander directory by Smith Directory Co of Peoria cited.
May 19 Genoa report cites Lloyd George praising the Genoa conference as a landmark for peace while warning Russia against repudiating debts. Tehucherin replies that Russians will pursue peace though neighborly responsibility remains. The talks foster Franco European conciliation amid limited direct loans to Russia.
