Franklin K. Lane Dies After Angina Attack in Rochester
Former U S interior secretary Franklin K. Lane died at 6 10 am in a Rochester hospital after an angina attack. He had undergone gall bladder and appendix surgery on May 6 and appeared to be recovering when the heart condition returned fatally. Lane left no estate.

Four Men Buried in Riverton Power House Collapse
Springfield May 18 A cave in at the Riverton power house of the Illinois Traction system trapped four workers as 35 laborers dug to reach them. Two men were rescued alive, but two others Lee Ward and Howard Bill of Riverton and Leo Leming of Decatur were buried for hours. Leming survived after rescue and treatment.
