Estate left by late Supervisor Stackhouse to widow
The will filed for probate states Chas M. Stackhouse of Walnut Grove township left $3000 in personal property to his widow Lizzie Stackhouse who is named executrix and guardian of children Elizabeth Nell Allen Eugene and Sannee Virginia. The will dated September 23, 1920 and witnessed in Bushnell by Chas Henry Verner Hall and Geo Hillyer. Stackhouse died April 20 of this year.

Supreme Court upholds taxes on capital gains in Lapelle case
The government asked the Supreme Court to treat asset value as part of corporate profits for taxes. The court sustained the ruling that ore lands bought for 190 000 in 1904 must be shown at 10 million in 1917 profits, involving hundreds of millions in excess profits tax. The decision was unanimous with one concurrence. The ruling also holds that the prohibition amendment was ratified within seven years and became effective January 16 1920. Dillon was arrested January 17 1920 for transporting wine.

Bloomington Illinois May 16 official inquiry into the Chicago and Alton Hum mer wreck last night shows the Chicago to St. Louis fast train was deliberately derailed by an unknown person. General Manager Titus and the dispatcher exonerate the engine crew while noting tampering at a siding switch. The fourteen car train with many Pullmans was steered into a siding and hit a freight train. Lights were extinguished and passengers panicked.

London May 16 A great magnetic storm disrupted telephone and telegraph lines in the British Isles and northern Europe paralyzing wire transmission in the United States over the weekend. Cables between England and the United States were affected with delayed transmissions as the unusually bright northern lights caused widespread trouble for telephone and electric light line companies.
