In a tense local GOP contest for the postmastership Pace holds the edge while rivals jockey for position. The outcome hinges on whether Pace accepts the office as others anticipate political maneuvering across Washington and regional patronage.
Track Souad dominated the Monmouth meet with a surprise 49 second effort in the half mile and an 88 team relay. Northwestern College posted strong performances, preserving its narrow lead in the event standings.
The St. David miners team is set to open the season against Macomb at the fair grounds tomorrow at 3 PM. The match follows a cancellation of Flatt's opener and expectation centers on St. David's strong lineup, last year beating Macomb independents 4 to 2.
The May term of McDonough county circuit court convenes Monday with grand jurors to report for duty. Prisoners in jail and others on bond await action as the court begins hearings after a grand jury session and possible recess. Perry Robinson of West Woodbury Street was arrested by Sheriff E L Sapp on the west side of the square and jailed as a suspect in forged checks at Mt Pleasant Ind and linked to the Stoneking store robbery in Bethel Township. Bondsmen include his father Wm A Robinson Jam Rexroat and Win Mitchell.

Loren Williamson of Mount Vernon Illinois was found guilty in East St Louis federal court of complicity in the January 14 Mount Vernon Illinois mail robbery involving $189000. The verdict covers six counts of grand larceny with potential penalties of three to five years per count. a motion for a new hearing is set for Friday and sentence is suspended pending that hearing. Former minister Guy Kyle testified he stole the mail sack and Williamson helped him conceal it. Kyle faces separate trial but is expected to plead guilty.
Gabing Tabunar a Filipino student at Western Normal School won first honors at the inter-state oratorical contest in Warrensburg Missouri. Five states Iowa Wisconsin Illinois Missouri and Kansas participated with Tabunar advancing from Bloomington March 25 to the Warrensburg final. The previous titleholder in 1908 was Camilio Ossias, another Filipino, in this city.
