James P. Merriweather a 55 year old farmer and Littleton bank board member died by self inflicted gunshot wound at his pantry near Doddsville. He had suffered mental illness since last fall and had been hospitalized at Norbury sanitarium from November to January. Coroner's inquest, verdict: death by gunshot wound from a 20 gauge double barrel shotgun in a personal crisis. He is survived by his wife Carrie Oglesby, a daughter Edith Hamilton and a son who died earlier, with siblings and relatives named.
