At the Democratic caucus in Chalmers township this morning candidates were named for township offices. Supervisor F. W. Plassmann. Justices of the Peace P. J. Wriend and John Logan. Constables Vi. E. Filbert and Nelson Ellis were listed as nominees.
Warsaw Indiana March 19 authorities probe Virgil Decker 19 for killing his chum Leroy Lovett of Elkhart. Decker admits striking Lovett with an ion bar then moving the body to a railroad crossing where a train struck it. He claims no insurance motive, though investigators note possible Vermont moonshine connections and local rumors of illicit activity.
Detroit March 18. The legislature approves a $30 million bond plan to fund a soldier bonus of 15 dollars per month for each month served up to August 1 1919. The measure heads for a statewide vote April 4 as part of Michigan's spring election, with only minor state officers on the ballot besides the bonus.
A steam shovel digging for a building foundation in central Cincinnati unearthed a graveyard estimated at over 115 years old. The remains belong to the First Presbyterian church cemetery, a site granted by the government in 1804, with the church building still located nearby a few doors east.

Belfast reports a large engagement this morning near Ingar Kinsale, County Cork, where Irish Republican forces fought Crown troops. Six soldiers were killed and five wounded, while attackers suffered heavy casualties and the battle continued.
St Louis police announced an order to stop street sales of the Dearborn Independent Henry Ford's paper. Police say selling on the streets violates defamation and criminal libel statutes and breaches an 108 ordinance.
An AP report from Chicago notes a bandit was shot by a watchman a house was bombed and a woman killed in separate mysterious blasts all within one hour in the city today.
Chicago reports Frank Walsh, unions attorney, charged rail executives used paid publicity to sway opinion against labor. He questioned railroad officials on publicity strategies, including claims Ivy Lee served as a press agent and framed anti union campaigns dating to 1914 and 1915.
Clyde Parker 27 of Prairie City sustained severe injuries after jumping from a Ford in which he rode when a tire blew causing the car to overturn. His right leg bone above the ankle was badly shattered with a three inch fragment driven into the ground. Parker was taken to Mes Sol hospital for surgery to remove bone fragments, with a difficult union expected.

Major General Joseph B. Sanborn is placed on the retired list and General Milton J. Foreman is named commandant of the Illinois National Guard with major general rank. Colonel Henry J. Reilly is advanced to brigadier general to lead the field artillery brigade as Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan divisions are reorganized. Illinois’ allotment reaches 23,670 men by June 30, 1924, from an enlisted strength of 3,350.
County Superintendent Decker conducted a teachers examination this week at the Second Ward building in Macomb. More than 150 prospective teachers wrote the tests with 86 registered yesterday and over 70 enrolled the day before.
