Manor farmer found dead in hay loft suicide verdict

In a rural scene near Good Hope a farmer J R Sutton was found hanged in a hay loft. The coroner’s jury ruled the death a suicide caused by self placed rope in a personal crisis. Obituary notes John Riley Sutton aged 74. Survived by wife Josephine Chatterton and two daughters Lucy Leighty and Daisy. brother Willard and sister Mollie. Funeral Sunday at 3 o’clock under Good Hope lodge auspices.

High School Seniors Net About Two Hundred From Play

High School seniors cleared approximately 200 from a two night staging of the play Springtime. Net receipts total about 500 with the John B Rogers Producing Co taking a share and expenses to be deducted. Attendance was large and the cast received praise for their fine work.

Bandits Shoot Druggist Captured Near Summit

Chicago June 11 Five bandits shot and seriously wounded A N Lawrence a city druggist this morning. They fled without opening the safe and were captured at noon near Summit by a flying squad of detectives. Lawrence was shot three times.

Leave of Absence for Sims Cancelled by Denby

Rev Admiral Sims in England had his leave of absence revoked today by Senator Denby and was ordered to report at once to the secretary of the navy.

Legion Mourns as National Commander Galbraith Dies

Illinois posts are ordered to drape colors and observe a 30 day period of mourning for National Commander F W Galbraith killed in Indiana. Funeral set in Cincinnati with French officials in attendance and a city of Chateau Thierry tribute aboard the casket.

French Households Benefit From U S Canned Foods In France

Paris June 11 The vast stocks of canned foods left by the American army and now sold to the public boost French households. Women can buy real English labelled cans at prices sometimes 300 percent cheaper than French brands. Items include string beans salmon tuna corn beef and pork and beans among others from top American packers.

Petition Opposes Grade Removal From High School

In the meeting the Fourth ward opposed transferring third and fourth grades from the High School to other city schools. The petition, signed by over 100 residents, cited longer distances for Fourth ward children. No action was taken yet. action may follow if petitioners send a representative to a board meeting.

Ma comb High School appoints two new teachers

The Board of Education selected Miss Ethel McMillan and Miss Marie Wooster as the new teachers for Ma comb High School. McMillan will teach Domestic Science after completing studies at the University of Illinois, and Wooster will instruct English. The board also hired janitors for the year: High School chief Geo. Gordon, Rev. H. Massey, and Sebastian Koch.

Quincy Colored Giants to Visit Macomb in Big Game

Macomb baseball fans await a top matchup as the Quincy Colored Giants visit for a 3 PM game. The Giants travel from nearby towns and feature a strong lineup and singing quartet. Macomb will start Ziggy Hamlin at short, with Murphy and Turner in the infield. Doug Lass is ready to pitch. Grandstand admission is free.

Former NewPhila Delphian Released on Bail After Appeal

Springfield June 10 The state supreme court granted Chester Todd a writ of supersedeas and admitted him to bail of 3000 on appeal from Hancock county circuit court. Todd was convicted of stealing a Buick coupe from Henry Sherman Bradford near La Harpe August 15 1920. The car was later recovered in Davenport Iowa. He had been sentenced to penitentiary time and will be released from Carthage jail on bond until the high court rules.

Macomb Men Eye Ardmore Oil Venture With Rich Leases

F G McClellan and R Godowsky of Macomb back an Ardmore Oklahoma oil company. Sample oil from a 198 foot well tests 43 percent gasoline. The firm, financed from Greenville Texas Shelbyville Missouri and Oklahoma City, holds 200 acre leases with four wells not yet pumped. Directors include McClellan among nine directors. additional 20 acre lease valued at $20 000 may rise in worth. Gas wells supply ample fuel and light. The president is W H Enlow of Oklahoma City.

Flood claims downplayed in Pueblo after disaster

J F Reno, in Pueblo, Colorado, reports flood in his brother J A Reno's area was less severe than described. He notes no lights water or gas in places yet plenty to eat, 10 feet of flood in Crews Beggs store, union avenue damaged, dike failure, limited fires and military rule with Red Cross relief arriving.
