The ton Enterprise notes Rev R Vance, pastor of Tastack Street Presbyterian, is named pastor for the entire Ville ayton Presbytery. John R Vance, former Clayton Presbyterian pastor now at Macomb, has received the Doctor of Divinity degree from Tow a College.
Wilbur Scott was found guilty of wife and child abandonment by a 5 p.m. verdict. County Judge Chas I. Imes sentenced him to one year in the county jail and a $100 fine plus costs. Court adjourned to Aug 2 at 9 a.m. Scott has prior charges including vagrancy and his wife was sent to the county farm during imprisonment. Two children, ages three and a few months, are involved. A bond of $600 and $25 monthly support are arranged for possible release.
Colchester baseball returns to Macomb next Thursday for the fourth game of its series with the American Legion team of Macomb. The mining town club has strengthened since its last appearance and with Macomb’s adjusted lineup a fast game is expected. Proceeds from baseball fund a local legion post club room.

He cited the danger of direct action and urged observance of the law as the solvent of public ills at Allen Field, Smith College, with Governor Morrow announcing the nomination. Illinois coal strike sees some operators agreeing to a $2 day raise to deter opposition, while overall production remains stalled.
Springfield July 27 Associated Press President Frank Farrington of the Illinois Mine Workers demands proof that miners officials have conspired with operators to raise coal prices. He condemns O Fallon local leader Corbridge and threatens to brand him a traitor if proof is not produced, following a resolution calling for an investigation by the international executive board.
Chicago July 27 The annual 950 mile automobile race over the Elgin NL course will be decided August 21. Ralph DePalma, who led the Indianapolis 500 field this spring before a car fire ended his run, has entered the Elgin event with his likely only foreign entry.

Orville B. Fisher of Blandingsville files in McDonough county circuit court seeking divorce from Ella Fisher on desertion grounds. He asks custody of a minor son. The couple married October 26 1897 at Burlington Iowa and lived together until July 14 1917. Two children Vernon and Leslie. Leslie sides with the mother in Lyons Kansas.
An Associated Press dispatch to The By-Stander reports Census data showing Macomb city wards with Fourth Ward at 1924 residents, First at 1617, Second at 1914, and Third at 1259. Blan linsville totals are 1002 and Colchester 1387.

Several firms have only a week to a month of coal, and rail yard backlogs risk broader shutdowns and job losses citywide.
