Delegates from Quincy and neighboring towns gathered for a Knights of Columbus initiation banquet at Macomb. Deputy Joseph J. led the charge with confirmations of both second degrees. Misses Olea Peterson and Fannie Clugston left today for an ox tended vacation trip to Colorado. They expect to be gone two or three weeks.
The body found in a trunk shipped from Detroit to New York is identified as Mrs. C Leroy née Katherine Jackson of Starkville Mississippi. Clothing in the trunk belongs to Mrs Leroy, and the Leroy family were close friends of the victim.
President Frank Farrington of the Illinois Miners union said Illinois operators and miners can quickly reach a settlement if the gov ernment allows it and Mr Lewis keeps hands off. Indiana strike actions disrupt Terra Haute and coal fields. United Mine Workers urge cross district conference to present the issue to authorities for settlement. Governor Lowden cites railroad shortages of empty cars as a factor sustaining the strike.
London dispatch reports the peace conference of Russian Soviets and Poles to begin at Barnavitchi, 85 miles southwest of Minsk, on July 30. The armistice will take effect the same day with the Lloyd George line holding in the north and the southern battle line becoming effective at once.
Dr FE R Miner and W C Miner arrived home last night from Chicago where Mr Miner spent ten days. The doctor visited Elk Creek Nebraska with her parents Mr and Mrs Henry Howard before rejoining Mr Miner on the trip home.
Yesterday marked the 23rd birthday of Lawrence Dunsworth of this city with neighbors and friends noting the occasion.
The governor says wages under the federal wage award are six dollars a day in the mines but a manpower shortage has many miners working only two days weekly earning twelve dollars. He calls the current strike a breach of contract and urges men to return to work and take their case to the awarding commission.
Garnet Spicer, nine, of Good Hope, fell ten feet from a wash house board striking her head on concrete. She remained unconscious but not deemed in immediate danger. X rays showed no skull fracture. no operation. Doctors expect recovery with head care, though hemorrhage risk could cause paralysis.
Gilbert R. Adams of Macomb today became owner of the Riordan grocery on the square after purchasing from E. D. Riordan who will leave next week for a six week trip to Colorado and western points. Riordan may pursue future ventures while Adams will run the store with the same staff and high standard of service.
Severe breaks in the grains and provisions markets occur today after reports that a large motor enterprise shut down due to inability to sell its products. Wheat fell as much as 8 cents per bushel while corn dropped about 9 5 8 cents amid accompanying financial and industrial movements in Chicago.
J A Reno departed yesterday for New York and Boston on a buying trip expected to last about two weeks.

John M. Keefer of South Lafay ette street counted 105 martins perched on telephone wires in the rear of his home Saturday evening. He said there had not been so many martins in Macomb before and was surprised by their large numbers.
