Crabbtown and Cuba prepare for a Sunday afternoon baseball clash on a new diamond at the Abner Jennings farm north of the East Sewerpipe plant. Thomas W. Butcher president of the state normal school at Emporia Kansas told Macomb Rotary Club that disloyalty to honest daily work is the worst vice in America. He said such disloyalty harms the nation and is mentally dishonest. Guest Chris Penartz, once a Macomb resident now in Salt Lake City, joined the luncheon and planned a vacation visit with relatives.
Coroner B. Rnsste Bush inell has filed his petition for re election to that office. This is the third petition filed with County Clerk John Norton since filing began about a week ago. Other petitioners are Will B. Mart for circuit clerk and Cephas Helmes for county surveyor.
Mrs Wm Jones wife of the County Home superintendent is in serious condition at her home after a prolonged illness. The condition has worsened recently though she had been ill for some time.
C R Thomas a porcelain man of Liverpool Ohio visits the Illinois Electric porcelain Co shop to transact business and compare methods during his stay in town.
Aaron S. Watkins of Germantown Ohio won the Prohibition party nomination on the second ballot at Lincoln Nebraska after William J Bryan declined the offer. Bryan issued a telegram from Bozeman Montana saying he cannot accept the nomination while remaining in the Democratic fold.
Springfield July 23 only four mines in central and southern Illinois coal field were working this morning. Miners and operators say this indicates a practical industry tie up and expect a 100 percent strike tomorrow. Railroads warn four days of supply left and may seek coal from other states if mines stay closed.
Railway union executives left Chicago after a three day conference that ended with sixteen unions except the telegraph operators approving the wage award from the railway labor board. Seven favored a referendum while fifteen planned to renew their case before the board. Return of referendum results was not expected before September 1. Conductors discussed a new petition regarding rail rates.
The labor department ordered three conciliators to Illinois to seek an adjustment of the Illinois coal mine labor strike. The move comes at the request of the White House as efforts to resolve the labor dispute continue.
London July 23 Premier Lloyd George warned in the House of Commons that allies may be compelled to enter another European war to save Poland. He indicated more than munitions would be required and drew broad newspaper support. Poland faces Bolshevik pressure and territorial invasions. Washington July 123 Poland asked the United States to publicly affirm moral support in its dire situation.
Chicago July 23 sixty railway officials and union leaders were subpoenaed to appear before the federal grand jury next Wednesday under the direction of Assistant States Attorney Chas. S. Kline.
Report from Constantia indicates planes over Adrianople observe the city burning. Miss Blanche B. Sweet of a Normal faculty and Miss Gertrude Jenkins of this city depart tonight for a brief visit to Chicago, with Jenkins returning to Macomb after the trip.
Property owners must file petitions of complaint with the Board of Review before August 1. The board meets daily in the grand jury room to hear disputes, primarily from Colchester over real estate assessments, with a rush expected next week as farmers petition after busy seasons. After hearings close, the board will adjust assessments before final year records and taxes for the county treasurer.
Dale Lewis of East Franklin Street, Macomb, says he paid 250 dollars for a Ford from a dealer in Galesburg, later spending 60 dollars on repairs. A man named Stabler of Gault Illinois arrived, claimed the car was his, took the vehicle home, and said it had been stolen from him a year earlier.
Shooting in the Kashmier street area revived after ten were killed in an engagement between Unionists and Sea Finers last night. In the Fals road district Sea Finers fired on army officers and policemen from roofs and windows. W. P. Morgan and his family left by auto for Indiana en route to Pentwater to spend the summer vacation.
Mrs. J. S. Thompson and three children left last night for their home in Waukesha Wisconsin after visiting Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Thompson of West Jackl808 Street.
The Western Normal school held morning graduation exercises for Normal School proper, 12th grade, and special courses. Principal speaker Thomas W. Butcher of Emporia Kans discussed Some Observations on Government in America, receiving an attentive, appreciative audience as graduates from multiple townships were listed.
