The Prohibition party moved to nominate Bryan for president amid a heated session in which credentials and planks on foreign policy and commerce were debated. A delayed final nominating vote followed a scramble to confirm Bryan’s nomination after a day of lobbying and protests.
Capt Geo Reid of the 64th Illinois recalls the July 22 1864 Atlanta battle in which northern losses were about 5000 and southern losses double. He helped seize a Rebel flag now in Springfield and survived heavy fire while returning with the trophy. The piece also notes a Paramount Pictures showing Everywoman at the Illinois theatre with strong audience turnout.
Dozens of teachers including summer-session attendees of the State Normal school sit for the teachers examination today and tomorrow conducted by County Superintendent B. E. Decker at the Newark High School building. The note in the Star Eagle cites a public notice from Newark Ohio.

All who wish to participate should attend so plans can be set. Also note two ears of cattle shipped to Chicago this week from Serota buyer G W Welch who purchased them last November for resale.
London July 22 Premier Lloyd George told the House of Commons the Soviet answer to the allies over peace with Poland was incoherent and propagandist but signaled willingness to negotiate directly with Poland.
Thomas W. Butcher, president of the State Normal at Emporia Kansas, will give the principal address at the eighteenth annual normal school commencement tomorrow. A former Industry boy born there, he has many local relatives and friends and once studied with Mayor Chas Flack of this city. his talk is eagerly anticipated.
A nine pound boy was born this morning to Mr. and Mrs. Dave Hall of South McArthur Street. Both mother and baby are doing well.
Chicago July 22 AP reports eighteen railroad unions may accept a 600 million dollar wage increase after resumed talks led by T S Shepherd. A union vote could fast track the award for this month and May pay while the referendum would take about 80 days.
AP wire reports from Washington and cities across the nation note requests to the Interstate Commerce Commission for a 20 percent passenger fare increase and a 50 percent rise in Pullman charges to cover the railroad wage award. Other updates include miners strike talk, Bryan’s elusive whereabouts, Jack Johnson’s transfer order, and insurers adding liquor protection amid theft concerns.
Colchester beat Bardolph 2 to 1 in a well played afternoon matchup. Fatty Turner led Colchester with solid hitting while M. Switzer starred for Bardolph, beginning with a sharp first-ball drive.
J F Gemming formerly of Macomb purchased the bakery building from Joseph Finley for 2000 dollars. The Bland insville Star Gazette praises Gemming stating he is a baker like one in a thousand and will be with the town permanently with his excellent family and the best bakery service in the county. The note adds the bakery cannot now be rented away from him.
Former Sciota residents in Macomb issue a challenge to other communities to prove they have more former residents now in Macomb than Sciota. A Sciota Neighborhood Club may form for social reminiscences and gatherings, with about fifty families named. Also noted are sales of Shetland ponies on rural route 8 and the legal adoption of Elizabeth by Mr and Mrs E M Conger in West Washington Street courthouse proceedings.
President Farrington of United Mine Workers says he cannot control the crisis as Illinois coal mines idle and will close by Monday with a strike in favor of higher wages for day men. Telegrams from local unions show near unanimous strike votes, while operators seek federal approval. More than 2000 miners idle in Southern Illinois due to unauthorized day labor action.

Marshall Cobb son of Mr and Mrs Fred Cobb of West Chase street sustained a crushed foot when a wheel of an auto truck ran over it near the high school. He had been riding the vehicle and alighted as it stopped but either moved too soon or failed to clear before it started again. No bones are believed fractured.
Mrs Elizabeth Lybarger of Prairie City has purchased a residence in Bushnell on West Main Street. The new home is located a short distance from that of her son, Attorney Rufus Lytla.
