Hold Receivership Over Packers Heads

Washington date Gov ernment objections to stockyards holding employ ment plans submitted by the big packers under the decree were sustained by Justice Stafford in the district supreme court. Any acceptable plan must provide for early and complete divestment of obnoxious holdings. The court also sustained that the decree of divorcement may be made effective by receivership and sale. Time extensions were requested and described as granted or refused as the case developed.

Congress Overrides War Finance Law Over President Wilson Veto

Congress overrode President Wilson's veto to revive the war finance corporation. The Senate did so yesterday. the House passed the measure 250 to 66 with three present, exceeding the two thirds requirement. Additionally, Mr and Mrs Arthur Burke of Detroit visited relatives during the holidays before returning home Monday.

Farmers Plan Involves All Bureau Members For Year Ahead

The Agricultural Council of the Farm Bureau drew representation from nearly every township to chart work for the coming year. They reported December 1 1919 to December 1 1920 activities including 2 office consultations 230 farm visits 2050 letters 12 circulars 133 subjects 73 meetings 8138 total attendance. The bureau ordered limestone and rock phosphate and aided farmers with seed quality and cooperative shipping efforts. Delegates Watson Kine and Sperry will attend the Illinois Agricultural Association annual meeting in Chicago January 13 14 and a planning committee will organize community discussions across the county.

Tobacco Growers Riot Over Slump In Kentucky Markets

In Lexington and Mazeville Kentucky growers protested sharply as loose leaf and burley tobacco sales collapsed. Buyers faced blocking crowds. baskets exchanged hands at 15 cents per pound while last year’s 25 to 35 cent range dropped to 3 to 5 cents. A mass meeting was called as 3500 to 4000 growers gathered.

Elmer Martin Taken to State Asylum at Elgin

Elmer Martin, ex serviceman linked to several escapes, has been arrested in Sandwich for obtaining money under false pretenses. He has been sent to the state insane asylum in Elgin amid reports of a recent marriage and multiple living wives. He previously was found unconscious on railroad tracks north of Bushnell claiming he had been sinned and robbed. A negro and white man were later released for lack of evidence as Martin left for the Tri-Cities area.
