McDonough County Poultry Show Earns High Praise

The McDonough County poultry show closed successfully on the second floor of a short garage building. Judge Johnston praised the exhibits and compared them favorably to St. Louis, Quincy, and Galesburg. Officials discussed necessary expenditures and possible financial support from county supervisors to ensure next year’s event. Numerous awards were announced, naming winners such as Laverne Erickson, John Wayland, and Geo Heinrichsmeir across barred rocks and Plymouth rocks.

Macomb in Pictures: New Book by W R Jenkins

W R Jenkins of North McArthur Street plans an 80 page book titled Macomb in Pictures. It will contain interior and exterior views of business houses factories hospitals schools churches public buildings and residences plus portraits of professional men and officials. The release is expected by January 1 with a later exact date to be announced.

Foot of Snow Recalled by Local Man on Visit

Quincy Hainline recalls a foot of snow that fell sixty four years ago yesterday. As a twelve year old he trudged home to a house fire in Emmet township where a rural policy from a Peoria insurer paid the loss. Friends who mocked the policy later saw its value.

Ill and Recoveries Reported After Several Surgeries

William Barrett of Colchester was admitted for acute appendicitis and operated on immediately. Eliza Ritter of the city loses three fingers at the Sheet Metal works but is recovering. G. W. Hicks of Plymouth and Joe Young of Adair underwent appendicitis operations and are improving. Mrs. George Bridges of Industry and Altha Osborn of Kirkwood are recovering from major operations. T. B. Collins of Bushnell returned home after strangulated hernia surgery. Mrs Clyde DeMott and her baby of Good Hope are progressing well.

Four Beardstown men Otto Wessel Lee Stocker Clarence Nipp er Lamb and Herbert Dant were lost in timber near Clear Lake overnight. A party of fifty from Beardstown scoured the woods all night. the men returned home in the morning weary but unharmed after a sleepless ordeal.

Mutiny at Cook County Jail Tied to O Connor Escape

Prisoners at Dearborn Street jail in Chicago mutinied for about an hour after the escape of Tommy O Connor and two confederates. Guards dispersed the crowd as residents gathered outside the jail. Police continued the search for O Connor and tried to identify a body found in a creek near Palmyra Wisconsin connected to the escape.

The Teachers' College five were defeated by Illinois Men's College quintet of Jacksonville by 31 to 24 last night. Cut Hand Injury in City Resident

Harold Brand son of Frank Brand suffered a deep two inch hand gash when a rib of an umbrella broke. He was taken to Doctors Jenkins and Adams where six stitches closed the wound. If no infection develops he should recover well.

The Green Door Dramatic Club presented four American plays last evening at the Normal auditorium with strong performances by several members. It marks the club’s first season offering and the group plans to participate prominently in Sunday’s pageant at 4:00 PM in the college auditorium.
