Bankruptcy note reports Kle failing to meet sales targets with about 30000 in payments owed. The filing highlights insufficient receipts and unpaid obligations, signaling ongoing creditor concerns.
The auction totaled about 154000 with land and personal property sold in blocks. W B Waymouth bought the 260 acre parcel for 76500 while others sold for around 75 per acre. Several holdings changed hands including the Duncan farm to Tim Sullivan and various railroad adjacent blocks.
Associated Press reports a railroad detective Fred R. Kircher was shot to death in a yard fight this morning. Police believe he was killed during a clash with a freight thief. Kircher, wounded, staggered a few blocks before collapsing. A local suspect is in custody, while Kircher’s father and ten others are being detained. Authorities say the case remains under investigation.
An automobile speeding west past the Whitsel home at 1 30 this morning is believed to have carried at least one man not welcome in the neighborhood. Mrs. Whitsel woke to barking dogs and Mr. Whitsel fired into the air to deter intruders. The small car sped away toward the west after lights flared in the road. A prior theft of 100 chickens at the Eddington farm supports chicken thief speculation.
Donald Laughlin, a seventh grader at Macomb State Normal, published a Chicago Tribune contest essay praising George Washington as a thinker and founder of the republic. The piece lauds honesty, faithfulness, and tireless work, calling Washington the father of his country.
The jury in the Roscoe C. Arbuckle murder trial reconvened at 10 this morning to continue weighing the evidence in the Virginia Rappe death case.

Brunswick headquarters will furnish the music for a dance at Jolly Hall Tuesday evening. One of their best machines will be used and a program of dances will be provided.
In the nine powers committee the United States Britain Japan and France reached a point in the Far East talks. China won a concession as Britain Japan and France agreed to retire from much of their leased holdings in Shantung and Wei Hai Wei with conditions to be met by China. France offered to retire from Kwan Chow Wai and Japan signaled talks on Manchuria privileges.
Mrs. Belle Heil, 39, claiming widow of a wealthy Chicago broker, was arrested in Los Angeles after police said she confessed to robbing a residence where she worked as a maid. She allegedly took jewelry, clothing, and a revolver from Samuel Wood’s home. She previously faced Chicago burglary charges and a divorce settlement with Jos. Heil.
Dr. Robert Graham of the University of Illinois rejected an Atlas Chicago report claiming he advised farmers moldy corn was safe feed. A jitney dance drew a large Holmes Park crowd with the Lombard orchestra providing music at Magnavox phonograph showcase.
