Charlotte Elizabeth Lanius, a 1890-born Galesburg native and former Western Illinois State Normal School student (1910–1912), shot herself in a Knox Street store rear room around 5:45 PM Saturday. An open verdict was returned by the coroner’s jury. authorities found one .32 caliber cartridge exploded and no clear motive. She taught in Galesburg public schools, including Farnham, and is survived by her parents, sisters Susie and Mary, and brother J C Lanins of Chicago. funeral set for Tuesday at 2:30 PM from the Knox Street home.
