Whites Set Fire to Negro Resort in Dixon Illinois
A mob of about 200 whites from Dixon and Polo gathered near the home of William Coffey who was recently shot to death at a black resort. They forced black residents from town and during a storm set fire to a black and tan resort east of town destroying the building and contents. The owner and guests fled after Coffey’s murder, with most transient blacks leaving Dixon and authorities reporting no further trouble.

Station Agent Aids Robbers At Auburn
Springfield Aug 6 station agent Fred Herrin of the Illinois Traction System at Auburn Ill bound and gagged by four men robbed the station safe of 300 dollars last Tuesday night. He later told detectives he opened the safe to accommodate the men by getting milk tickets. Herrin said he helped frame the robbery to ease the crime.
