Peter Itheis, 58, of Dixon, was found dead this morning near a freight train south of Dixon. Police say domestic troubles are believed to have caused him to lay his head on the rails and be decapitated.
Springfield dispatch reports Deputy sheriff and auctioneer Frank A. Minkler from Barrington Mass seeks to know if a reward exists for Governor Len Small. Mester of Sangamon county holds a warrant for embezzlement and conspiracy to defraud the state treasury. A letter asks about rewards and requests a Small photograph for comparison.
Drilling on the C. R. Huston farm near Blandinsville is advancing with promising signs. The first hole reached 125 feet with a productive strata about ten feet higher than the mainline well. At ~100 feet the drillers found a four foot vein of high quality coal, making the venture valuable even if no oil is found.

Blandinsville hosted a successful picnic with crowds lining the streets and park visitors enjoying free concerts by two bands. Adjutant General Frank S Dickson spoke before several hundred in the schoolyard, representing Governor Len Small, and a telegram noting the governor could not attend due to bad roads. Rushville Aug 5 The gas from an abandoned hillside coal mine shaft four miles east of Rushville claimed the lives of Ray Nickerson 30 and his son Glenn 10 Ralph McCormick neighbor entered to rescue but collapsed Louis Nickerson brother descended the shaft and saved Ralph in a deadly accident near Rushville.
The postponement concerns a Joetta social originally set for August 6 now moved to August 13. The Tennessee function remains the event at issue and is affected by the schedule change.
Harry Thomas former Macomb resident and Chas Setters of Quincy were arrested with three and a half gallons of moonshine by Chief Purdum and handed to Sheriff Sapp who held a state warrant. They await bonds of 1000 each for the December county court term after city fines of 28.50. Thomas wife Nellie Gray released. The Ford car tied to the case also at county jail under liquor seizure law.
Charles B. Ruark sues Charles E. Lauder state attorney A. M. Hicks sheriff B. L. Mapes justice of the peace Clara Ray for damages of 25000 in a Monmouth circuit court filing. The action, possibly linked to a habeas corpus petition, names county officials as defendants and notes Ruark’s imprisonment for alleged paternity.
Clarence Bolen, a high school athlete chosen from this city for the summer training camp at Rockford, is home after a slight physical defeat found during a recent elimination examination.
Macomb's baseball team hosts an aggregation from LaHarpe next Sunday at 3 PM. Last meeting saw Macomb win 4 to 3 behind John Douglas. LaHarpe brings a Ft Madison pitcher while Macomb may start Douglas or Murphy. Smith may not appear.
Harrystroll was jailed on neglect of his wife after Sheriff Sapp and Deputy Wilson arrested him this morning following county court information filed by State's Attorney A I Hainline. Bonds set at 300 dollars for release, case to be heard in December term. officers had searched for him at known locations before taking him into custody at his brother Carroll's home.
E Shirley Hill former Macomb resident now of Fort Wayne Indiana left this afternoon for home after a two week visit with old friends in the county He returned to attend the old normal reunion with longtime acquaintances.
