George Myers, a Ford garage youth, escaped serious injury when the Ford roadster he drove was struck by a fast freight at the Lafayette street crossing. The car was carried a block to Randolph street before being tossed clear of the rails. Myers crawled onto the locomotive pilot and rode there until the train stopped, then safely exited. Three wheels were broken and the body battered but the motor remained largely intact. The incident occurred shortly before 7 this morning before the crossing gateman arrived.
Former constable Ben Bartleson testified in the Panama Bank daylight robbery trial, admitting his role and accusing Former Sheriff John Wilson of Bond county of acting in concert with the seven bandits and receiving 1800 dollars from the loot.
A 175 strong delegation of Quincy wholesale and retail business men and Burlington officials toured Macomb on a friendship trip. The group, led by T. Chick Twyman, rode a special train with a 40 piece Quincy High School band, visited the courthouse yard, and planned onward travel to Bushnell via Carthage. Robi Sweitzer of the Quincy Whig Journal called on the By-Stander during the stop.
A heavy quake centered in Tokyo at 1 15 this morning damaged many buildings. The tremor lasted about fifteen minutes and killed several persons, none of them American or European. Numerous people escaped collapsing buildings and chimneys.
Flood waters from a widening crevice in the Wacuma levee reached Faraday Louisiana this morning, enabling residents to escape. Vidalia, a town of about 2,000 residents, is next in the flood’s path and could be affected today.

J H Glasscock, a 21 year old Kentuckian, led a running gun fight with deputies near Oneida in an attempt to escape arrest for forgery. He was chased two miles through fields and captured after exhaustion. Sheriff Wheeler received a Kentucky warrant and held Glasscock for transfer.
Mrs Glenn Painter and her son Charles traveled from Middleton Idaho to visit her grandparents Mr and Mrs J T Jolly due to Mrs Jollys illness. Painter notes Idaho spring is a month behind their current season and this marks her first visit in nineteen years.
Evangelistic service at Woodbury Chapel scheduled for tonight invites attendees to join in a nighttime gathering for prayer and reflection. Organizers encourage participation from the community and neighboring groups.
B F Kneeskern, a wealthy Castalia cattle buyer, was found guilty of first degree murder in Decorah Iowa, for the December 11 1921 killings of Mr and Mrs Charles Van Brooklin amid rumors of alleged romantic ties. Life imprisonment is recommended by the jury. Elmer Van Brooklin had been implicated earlier but was released after a preliminary hearing.
Waukegan April 27 four jurors for the trial of Governor Small were selected and sworn. A new venire of 100 was called, 63 found, and Judge Edwards excused 25 for varied reasons. Ralph Cady resumed questioning four more jurors tentatively seated last night.
The third anniversary celebration of the local Shrine has been postponed. A new date will be announced later.
Springfield April 27. Working majority rule announced as absent members face telegraph notice and possible sergeant at arms. Sixty six members present. plan to finish second readings by end of next week. Corporations sections debated. railways declared public highways with regulation adopted.
Five young men in Macomb announce a new orchestra to provide music for dances and entertainments. Members include Terence Murphy on drums Otto White on saxophone Clyde Winegartner on piano Keith Balmer on violin and Lawrence Wisecup on banjo. They perform at Table Grove tonight.
Seventeen of 120 prospective teachers passed the examination conducted in March under County Superintendent B. E. Decker. State Superintendent Francis Blair's office reported the results received this morning from Springfield.
Fifteen students from the teachers college stayed home this week while others vacationed elsewhere. They enjoyed a pleasant picnic yesterday in the woods northwest of here.
