Dallas City April 18 Ez ra Cox billiard hall owner suffered a fractured arm when the Ford he rode in overturned into a ditch during a race with John Welborn driving against Joe Fisher in a Chevrolet. Two wheels collapsed and Cox was the only injury.
Prehn aims to defeat Cannon tonight to earn a shot at middleweight champion Myers. Cannon vows victory, noting training with the current champ and confidence in beating Prehn. The main match at Holmes Amusement Park uses new 10 minute rounds with 2 minute rests, judged by Louis Randolph and T L Roark.
The city council adopted ordinances to issue 100000 in bonds for waterworks enlargement and to call a special election. Voting places will be set in each of the four wards per official notice. Election boards, six judges and six clerks per ward, will serve unpaid to minimize costs.
McDonough county supervisors selected F A Hellyer of Mound Township as chairman by acclamation at the post election organization meeting. The vote eliminated W G Wilt of New Salem Township from the chairmanship race. Visiting Frank Wright of Greenwood Miss. is observing the session from Macomb.
Residents of West Washington S Teet seek pavement from Lafayette to Johnson and an additional three blocks on East Calhoun and McArthur. Macomb may finance about 800 for an intersection, with funding via next year’s levy. City notes objection slows progress but urges moving ahead to enable growth.
Miss Lamotte Morley won honors in the declamatory contest at Bardolph Community High School earning the school’s representative to the county meet at Teachers College Saturday. Miss Trelen Maxwell placed second and Miss Jessie Dunlan third. Judges were Superintendent Reeves and Miss Fennessy of Avon, with Superintendent Hunter of Prairie City consulting.
A two year old girl, Jeanette Caldwell of near Industry, drank kerosene with unknown amount while eating candy. Her four year old sister Thelma is suspected of supplying it. Jeanette’s condition was critical but officials fear for recovery. Thelma is recovering.
Flooding across Meredosia and Beardstown areas disrupts communications and transports. Levees along the Illinois river hold under west bank pressure while 180 workers fortify the McGee Creek levee with sandbags. Residents evacuate, livestock safe, shortages reported for Naples refugees.
