Frantic sandbagging efforts surround the Veimons River levee as water rises hourly and threatens Coombs Ambering about a hundred families. Officials warn of possible isolation if the levee fails while a train station and nearby properties brace for inundation amid ongoing river pressure and emergency measures.
A report notes Lee Huddleston sustained a badly crushed foot when his horse slipped on Tuesday but no fracture occurred. Visiting sister Pred Blount of Broken Arrow arrived last night to stay with her sister Mrs. Mary n of North McArthur.
Dehority & Co staged a semi annual pageant at the Illinois Theatre in Macomb drawing a large crowd despite poor road conditions. Twenty three young ladies modeled multiple scenes including knickers and a wedding gown from 1862. The show featured an esthetic dance by Dorothy Donoghue and an excellent Illinois Theatre orchestra program directed by Harold Frank. The event repeats tonight with a full dress and program change.
A Lincoln County couple traveled sixty miles to Galesburg to obtain a marriage license. The young bride, age seventeen, was deemed too young after the clerk asked her age, ending their plans for a hastened wedding and honeymoon.
The second degree team of the local I. O. O. F. lodge traveled to Astoria last Tuesday night with about twenty-five members. They admitted three candidates, then held a banquet of coffee, sandwiches, cheese and pie a la mode plus cigars.
In Carthage on April 6 the Blackhurst will case gains a second rehearing before the Illinois Supreme Court. Heirs and executors challenge the 1918 will after earlier trials in Hancock Circuit Court. The decedent William Blackhurst, born in England, died aged over 92, leaving extensive land holdings and two wills.
Margaret Martin daughter of Mr and Mrs Chas E Martin was announced as the winner of the Illinois prize in a national hat picture coloring contest. She will receive a hat reproduced from her colored picture and wear it on Easter morning. Eligible entrants came from Illinois towns with populations over 2500 and a booklet with hat style outlines guided entries.
Thieves raided the John Frakes residence on East Walker street and took six chickens from the pen. Chief of Police Purdum was notified this morning and investigations are underway.
Roseville Illinois April 6 rumor says Homer Kelley, then employed at the lumber yard, will be the new postmaster. It is believed he has been recommended by Congressman Graham, but no official notice has been received yet.
Miss Minnie Black leaves tonight for Claremont California for a two month visit at the home of her sister and brother in law Mrs Ross Ogden. The Ogdens are former Macomb residents and are hosting the trip as part of family travel and extended stay plans.
The Macomb High School 1922 class of 57 graduates will receive diplomas May 29 at the Presbyterian church with Francis G Blair State Superintendent delivering the commencement address. Principal Her reports vocational guidance lectures will follow to aid plans in education and vocations for seniors and all students.
Waukegan court heard that the Grant Park Trust and Savings bank in Grant Park and the First Trust and Savings in Kankakee had records burned in a basement fire. Norman Griffin testified the janitor burned papers and is now dead. Judge Madwards ordered special accounting and extended Burnett to Grant Park.
San Francisco April 7. Bishop L C Parsons a member of the commission revising the Book of Common Prayer says the promise to obey is antiquated and should be dropped from the marriage ceremony. He argues marriage rests on mutual agreement rather than one partner's authority.
