Railroad bridge carpenters finish erection of the overhead wagon bridge over the tracks near Colmar. Grading will start Monday if weather holds. Ten days of favorable weather should finish the project and put the bridge in use. The old crossing hid the tracks and caused several serious accidents.
Ross Noper of Good Hope has acquired Tolono Timm 2nd a premier Big Type Poland China boar from Meharry of Tolono. Timmond, a fall yearling, will be shown at the Macomb Agricultural Fair in August and joins a line of champions from Meharry's herd.
Mr Burns arrived last night and began his full professional duties today at the club. The Associated Press report notes the new professional occupies a key role at the golf course.
Harold Sturm’s station sent the first radio music from Macomb last night using a new phone transmitter capable of speech music and coded messages. The music reached the Joe Atherton station and was heard locally with distant reports lacking. Earlier Sturm’s test broadcast was heard at Chase Henderson station in Scotland township.
The county now maintains 196 miles of state aid roads with 150 miles handed to grading gangs. Officials expect the remaining 16 miles to be assigned soon as daily dragger reports show strong worker effort. Road conditions improve as gangs address plugged culverts and other issues.
The Illinois Legislative League endorses candidates for the Thirty second district. Democrats Flack and Klick are nominated for two seats with Flack praised for his first term and record. Republicans Poster and Robins are backed for two seats with Robins favored for a second term though independence is noted.
The largest coal strike in U.S. history halted mining nationwide as 600000 workers, including 100000 nonunion miners, walked out. Bituminous and anthracite fields closed about 6000 of 7500 mines, with Alabama and Kentucky partially operating. Leader Lewis plans to testify in Washington as district chiefs direct the suspension.

A three year old girl in St. Louis swallowed a nail a year ago. She did not tell her parents. Illness led to pneumonia and an X-ray revealed the nail in the bronchial tube. Surgery could not proceed as the nail shifted to the left tube and she died from suffocation.
