Convention Virtually Impossible for Conservative Leadership

Party president Graeme Haig said a leadership convention this fall would be virtually impossible due to the extensive planning required. Sidney Spivak wants a fall vote to test popularity, but no challengers have emerged and an executive meeting is expected to set a deadline review for late February or early March. If uncontested, the convention would serve as a confidence vote for Spivak, who became leader in 1971 with 22 seats in the 57 seat legislature.
