MacGregor Council Considers Rural Water Connection

At the village council meeting on October 12, officials discussed extending the MacGregor water distribution system to include the surrounding rural area. Feasibility of the request will be studied by council as part of the regular monthly session.

Central Plains plans future economic promotion drive

Central Plains Inc held three meetings with local residents in Plumas Arden and Gladstone west of Lake Manitoba to discuss a guide service for visiting hunters and tourism backed by farmers and officials. They envision a hunters guide network and possible sheep packing facility with provincial road improvements to boost access and regional business, while also addressing watershed and municipal issues and an upcoming council election and tax matters in MacGregor.

Wheat Board Restores 10.6 Cents A Bushel Payment

The Canadian Wheat Board announced an extra 10.6 cents per bushel for prairie growers under the Temporary Wheat Rec act for the 1969 70 crop. Payments resume after suspension and cover all grades of wheat delivered in the crop year ending July 1 1970. Cheques start mailing Wednesday and will take about 12 days to complete.

Central Aid Monthly Meeting Sees Donations and Plans

In the absence of the president Mrs E Douglas chairs the meeting. Minutes approved. Matron's report notes repairs and dress sewing material buying. Pantry shower a success with bake table and tea table proceeds joining bursary fund. Donations total 360 value gifts plus cash and vegetable contributions. Next meeting set for November 16 with a greeting card committee.

Shower Honors Glenda Parent

A miscellaneous shower was held in the United Church hall on October 15 to honor Mrs. Ron J. Parent nee Glenda Scora. The hall featured a Halloween theme with pumpkins flowers and orange streamers. Guests presented with corsages were escorted to chairs by hosts and relatives and gifts were given to a group of witches and goblins amid thanks and an invitation to a Memorial Hall dance the next evening.

Tartan Days Proves Successful

Tae MacGregor and District Chamber of Commerce held Tartan Days last Friday and Saturday with bright warm weather. The Tartan Ball drew good attendance and the teen dance also succeeded. An auction sale Saturday afternoon pleased officials as a first of its kind, and the two minute shopping spree drew a winner Mrs. H Konrad of 1302 Rosemount Ave Winnipeg.

Weather and local notices mix with community events

Past week brought mostly sunny skies and near 60 degree days allowing harvest progress. Halloween moved to Saturday October 30 with senior citizens urged to plan a recreational club meeting. Daylight saving ends this weekend. MacGregor Recreation Association to hold reorganizational meeting on November 9. Community Centre work advances as a wall near the ice and waiting room nears completion with ongoing nightly crews. Congratulations to Alex and Mrs Dow on their 50th anniversary and to H Konrad of Winnipeg and J Dankesreiter on local draws.

Citizens gather at the cenotaph to honor those who gave their lives with an 11 o clock gathering by the North Norfolk Legion and others at MacGregor United Church. Wreaths are laid at 11 15 am followed by Last Post two minutes of silence and Reveille.

Intermediates Enter 5 Hockey League Reorganization

The South Central Manitoba Hockey League held an October 17 reorganizational meeting in Holland. Lorne Drummond was reelected president. Eight teams will compete: MacGregor Carberry St. Claude Holland Somerset Pilot Mound Crystal City and Clearwater. Each club to play home and home series. MacGregor Intermediates to organize anew and plans include a raffle fundraiser.
