North Norfolk Election Next Wednesday for Reeve and Councillor

Rural North Norfolk voters go to the polls next Wednesday to choose a reeve with Jim Dun can opposed by Ben Loeppky of the Sidney district. Ward 2 councillor race features Jim Dickson Nelson Hulme and Doug McGregor. Voting age is 18, terms are three years, newly elected take seats after fourteen days. Ward 1 Carl Bergquist and Ward 4 William Morris elected by acclamation in the municipality. In MacGregor village all offices filled by acclamation. Mayor Glenn Lye and councillors Russell Tarr Sid Hay John Bachman. Boschman fills seat vacated by Alvin Sloane for one year.

Tartan Days Here This Weekend

The MacGregor and District Chamber of Commerce sponsor Tartan Days this weekend. Friday features the Tartan Ball and a Saturday auction sale of items with a commission taken by the chamber. Items can be listed in advance. pony rides, ticket booths, a shopping spree draw, a football sweepstake, and a teen dance are planned.

Betty Lowe Heads Austin CGIT

The Austin CGIT reformed a committee with Betty Lowe as president Kathy Carroth 8x8 as vice president Annette Van Damme as secretary Kim Fredrickson as treasurer Judy Jones and Frances Young as leaders and Arlene Hotel as crafts leader. The group plans charity drives for UNICEF and the Kidney Foundation plus a Thanksgiving service and a kidney dialysis fundraising project. Meetings are held Thursdays at the United Church and all teenage girls are welcome to join.

Kanes Honored On 25th Wedding Anniversary

Friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wotton on Saturday October 16 to honor Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Kane on their twenty fifth wedding anniversary. Cards corsage pins and gifts accompanied congratulations. Harvey and Edna received matching lamps and a cup and saucer. Dancing and a cold plate supper concluded a very enjoyable evening.

North Norfolk Rural Council Backs Whitemud Watershed Plan

The North Norfolk rural council and MacGregor village representatives met to discuss forming the Whitemud River Watershed. A bylaw approving the watershed was read and passed. action includes appointing an officer to employ and terminate staff, plus funding for engineers and local services. The equalized municipal assessment for 1972 is set at 5,908,740 dollars.

Pine Creek School trustees elected by acclamation

On October 6 nominations led to acclamations for Pine Creek School division trustees Axel Christofferson Ward 5 Phil Stephenson Ward 9 Wm Poraskys Ward 1 and A M Johnson Ward 11. Ward 3 Gladstone sees three nominees for the vacancy: N K Mayor Mrs Ann Stuart and Ronald Broadfoot. Election day is October 27 for Ward 3 Gladstone electors.

Centre Showing Good Progress at New Community Centre

The Mac Gregor and District community centre is nearing completion with roof work expected to finish this week. Crews continue to pour cement for waiting rooms and curling areas while insulating walls and building the second floor. Around 25 men helped with a recent cement pour as committees organize nightly work crews.

Red Cross ladies tour Austin facilities and honor 40-year service

Mrs Harry Rand Mrs Trevor Payser and Mrs Bea Outhwaite of Austin attended a Red Cross special conference on Wednesday October 13. They toured the Red Cross Centre and were hosted to lunch at Government House by Governor and Mrs McKeag. The group visited the Art Gallery Planetarium and Museum before awards were given to women on the women's work committee who served 40 years.

Town Happenings in Wet Week Tiptoes Through October

Local notes report a very wet week with a touch of snow on Saturday that quickly melted by Sunday. MacGregor Collegiate Mustang Football team lost a snowy rain soaked game to Russell by a single point. Chamber raffle tickets must be turned in by Friday for the shopping spree draw Saturday during Ta fan Days. Community centre work continues ahead of the Snow flies with volunteers welcome. MacGregor hosts Tartan Days this Friday and Saturday. Pirates win round seven of a seven game series setting a night game record. Garry Leckle’s house moved east of Shaw Bros, and neighbors Bill Olito and Jake Neufeld relocate nearby. Free kittens offered by phone, Hallowe’en celebrated Saturday, Oct 30. Daylight saving ends Sunday, Oct 31. W I meeting October 26 at 2 pm hosted by Mrs Jones with hostesses listed.

Inspectoral Regions Re organized in Manitoba Education Plan

Manitoba education reorganizes the province into five inspectoral regions with Portage la Prairie in the southern region. The southern region includes Rhineland Morris Macdonald Portage la Prairie Midland Garden Valley Pembina Valley Mountain Pine Creek and Western divisions serving about 21 000 students and 1100 staff. Regional office is in Morden with a part time secretary.
