MacGregor Hockey meeting forms new district club

One of the largest gatherings in years approved organizing an intermed iate hockey team to represent MacGregor and surrounding districts. President J Lamp cited last season as an experiment and praised fan support while noting the operation will require substantial funds for canvassing and equipment.

MacGregor Club to Hire Coach and Close Early

The MacGregor Hockey Club authorized up to 1000 to hire a playing coach for intermediates and to tutor all classes. The treasurer R E Lye presented last year’s financials showing about 100 in surplus. Officers were named to run the coming season as the club plans canvassing and operations.

MacGregor Memorial Hall Fowl Supper Draws Hundreds

The first anniversary of the MacGregor Memorial Hall featured a well attended Fowl Supper with hundreds from town and district enjoying a bountiful meal. Net profit reported as 346.20 after expenses including chicken, picture show, advertising and coffee. A semi annual Curling Club meeting is set for Nov 13 at 8 pm to discuss the upcoming season.

Portage Auctioneer Killed in Train Crash

Portage la Prairie auctioneer Louis Chartrand was killed near Portage 20 miles east when his car was struck by a westbound CNR passenger train. He had stopped at the crossing and the car moved into the locomotive’s path. Paul Moseyton of Portage escaped injury.

Remembrance Service Set in Memorial Hall November 12

A joint remembrance service will be held at Memorial Hall on Sunday November 12 at 730 p.m. The Legion and other wreath placing groups will meet at 7 p.m. for a cenotaph procession then return for the service conducted by Rev. C D Rupp with Rev. L Dickinson assisting. Mrs E A Thompson will sing Land of Hope and Glory with the united church choir present.

Blood Donor Clinic to Visit Austin on November 15

A Red Cross mobile blood clinic will roll into Austin on November 15, operating from 12 noon to 2 pm at the Community Hall. Dr. Cecil Harris leads the medical team assisted by nurses and technicians. The event aims to boost blood transfusions after a history of many lifesaving units.

Tenders for caretaking of MacGregor rink opening season

The High School reports a quiet week as exams approach. Girls practice basketball while boys focus on football with no away games planned. Fowl Supper Dishes Call for Return at Memorial Hall
