Local Teams Join Minor Ball Leagues

Local teams resume play in Pine Creek Minor Ball League with the MacGregor Pony League featuring six clubs Austin Plumas Glenella Rossendale Gladstone and MacGregor. Schedule spans May 21 to June 11 with matches including Austin at Rossendale and Glenella at MacGregor among others. The Little League includes Rossendale Austin Gladstone and Plumas and awaits its forthcoming schedule.

Prairie Bible group to perform at Evangelical Mennonite Church

Rev Harold Elliott leads a Prairie Bible Institute ladies ensemble from Three Hills Alberta Canada to Evangelical Mennonite Church East End on Friday May 28 at 8 pm. Members include Elaine Dobson vocal Beryl Dobson pianist Carolyn Hoyle flute Donna Breithaupt clarinet and Virginia Randall oboe. Elliott directs the Prairie Correspondence School and serves on the Institute faculty. The institute began in 1922 with eight students and now educates about 1000 in Bible and high school programs with missions work across 82 countries and 75 societies pastorally active in North America.

Holland Hosts Central Plains Inc May Board Meeting

Central Plains Inc held its May board meeting in Memorial Hall, Holland, drawing 15 board members, corporation officials, and 11 local leaders. Discussion covered watershed studies for Morris Boyne basin, Whitemud priority, Highway 2 sign improvements, and plans to attract agricultural investors. A three-member committee was named to promote the region, with further surveys needed on railway services, forest reserves, and grain elevator rationalization.

MacGregor to Host Clean-a-Thon On June Five 1971

MacGregor village council approved a clean-a-thon on June 5 1971 after a May 10 meeting. Delegation from MacGregor C.G.I.T. sought permission. council agreed and will supply plastic bags. The issue of twinned events with Peachland BC and hospital day were noted along with RCMP policing updates and municipal financing plans for a new community centre project.

Shower Honors Marlene Alderson Bride of May 8

A shower for Marlene Alderson bride of May 8 was held in the Baadeerer United Church on May 3. The hall was festively decorated with reverent display windows. The bride, her mother, sister Irene and aunt Vega received corsages and were seated in the seats of honor. Florence Sims gave a humorous reading for the bride. Gifts came from the display window and the couple thanked attendees. Lunch was served by 25 hostesses.

Shower honors Eva Bilawka before May wedding

On Friday May 7 a grocery shower was held at Mrs. Mabel Palmer’s home for Eva Bilawka in anticipation of her May 29 marriage to Grant Smith. Corsages were given to the bride and groom’s mother Mrs Audrey Smith. gifts were opened, thanks were offered, contests enjoyed, and a dainty lunch served by hostesses Mesdames Helen Dankesreiter Muriel Snaith Mabel Palmer and Margaret McKelvey.
