Residents Back 305 Blacktop Over 240 Route

Cypress River and Holland residents pressed for provincial blacktopping of provincial road 305 extending from Trans-Canada to No 2 Highway. At May 13 meetings Central Plains Inc backed designating 305 as No 4, arguing 22 miles vs over 40 miles for 240. Local leaders want faster access, lower costs, and eastern Spruce Woods access via the east park entrances not west.

Jehovah's Witnesses Meet At Neepawa Hall

A Neepawa gathering of Jehovah's Witnesses hosted a three day seminar at the Centennial Hall on May 23. J Scaglione articulated that rebellion stems from fear and injustice while praising God's Kingdom under Christ Jesus as the solution, and seven new ministers were baptized symbolizing dedication. Attendees were invited to Bible study and local Kingdom Hall meetings.

North Norfolk Council Discusses Mill Rate and District Formation

North Norfolk rural municipality held its May meeting focused on drainage, fire bylaw approval, and a plan to form the Austin and District Community Centre. The 1971 general mill rate is expected to stay the same as 1970 with details due in May and bylaw preparations underway.

Holiday Festival Seeks Rural Participants in Neeppawa

The Manitoba Holiday Festival of Arts, now its fifth year in Nee pawa, aims to include rural Manitobans in a learning festival rather than a competition. It was designed to broaden access beyond Winnipeg, inviting neighbors from provinces and states, but last year saw few outsiders participate.

M P Stewart criticizes church camp closures in park

M P Stewart speaking in the House of Commons on May 13 attacked government plans to close six church camps in Riding Mountain National Park. He cited 30 years of development, urged public hearings, and questioned the policy while noting alternative group relocation. Alberta Bechard said four camps will stay at their sites until 1975 with renewals for the other two.
