MIB Proposes Amendments to C176 on Farm Movement
Manitoba Farm Bureau backs Bill C-176 with amendments to guarantee restricted interprovincial movement of agricultural products. Delegates from 15 producer groups also back actions from the Science Council of Canada and an Agricultural Research Co Ordinating Council. Evans Seeks Profit From Manitoba Cannery Plan
Minister Leonard Evans outlined about 95000 in capital expenditures this year for a cannery in Morden, Manitoba, run as a crown corporation by Manitoba Development Corp. Plans target processing produce from roughly 1670 acres with 85 growers from Morden and Winkler. He said the plant has been profitable under prior operators and the government expects continued profitability.

Capacity Crowd For Masons Social at Home Evening
The Austin Community Hall filled to capacity on Friday for the annual Masonic at home. Twenty eight tables of whist, a short program, solos by Harvey Robinson and Lloyd Hughson, piano pieces by Mrs A J Stevenson and Mrs R Bryce, with Merlie Lamb naming 1900 officers. Visiting brothers from MacGregor Sidney Carberry and Neepawa attended. The mortgage burning of the new Temple was led by W M Harold Hughson with LPM Albert Mamus and DD GM Robert Harvey. The Melodiers provided music for a lunch and dance concluding the event.

Uskiw Heads Manitoba New Department of Co operative Development
Agriculture Minister Sam Uskiw is named minister of the Manitoba government’s new department of co operative development. An order-in-council at a cabinet meeting confirms the appointment, with no salary increase to 15,600 dollars annually. The minister will oversee The Companies Act The Credit Union Act and The Wheat Board Money Trust Act. Spending for the new department totals 361,000 dollars in the 1971-72 estimates, up from 263,600 in the prior agriculture department.

Boy Found Dead in Creek Near Spruce Woods Camp
Five year old Jim Rutley went missing April 16 from Spruce Woods rehabilitation camp in Manitoba. A 10 man volunteer search, including his father, covered 50 square miles before his body was found in Epinette Creek near a beaver dam, drowned. An autopsy at Brandon General Hospital confirmed drowning. time of death not released. RCMP say he likely slipped from the dam while crossing the swollen stream. The intensive search involved skin divers, tracking dogs, horse patrols, helicopters, and private planes.
