Powdered Milk Cupboard Bare in Canada
Canada faces a shortage of powdered milk with no stocks as of March 31 and prices rising from 11 to 20 cents per pound. The dairy commission chairman noted current selling prices amid a seller’s market while world conditions, drought in New Zealand, and European Common Market pricing influence exports. Domestic cheese supply remains adequate, but exports may fall if stocks decline. Members urged more promotion of dairy products to counteract bad publicity from strontium 90 milk tests.
