Evangelism Theme Guides Portage Presbytery Meeting

Evangelism was the focus of the Portage Presbytery United Church gathering at Carberry on February 15 and 16 led by Rev. Dr. Allan Churchill. He urged members to act on faith and broaden evangelism beyond emotion to touch mind will and body. The meeting covered union plans among Anglican United Church and Church of Christ Disciples, General Council actions on death penalty and abortion, and presbytery efforts to involve congregations in mission and rural ministry planning.

Kee Revue At MacGregor Rink Tonight

The MacGregor Figure Skating Club stages its annual revue at the MacGregor rink starting at 7 30 p m tonight. Sixty skaters have spent the week rehearsing for the space age themed show A Salute to the Space Age featuring fairy tale, mid years, and space age dances. Watch the boys and girls perform in action at the local ice show.

Wheat Board Modifies Quota Delivery Policy

The Canadian Wheat Board announced changes to its delivery quota policy aimed at giving farmers more freedom in choosing how to use assignable acres. A pamphlet for the 1971 72 crop year will be mailed to over 200000 permit holders. The non cumulative quota system will apply to wheat barley and oats encouraging regular deliveries. A new formula will set the assignable acreage base replacing the end of the Lift program.

Spivak Captures Manitoba Opposition Lead In Tight Race

Sid Spivak, a Manitoba minister and businessman, won the Conservative leadership contest with 261 votes to Harry Enns 93 in a closely watched ballot. Spivak pledged a responsive, less taxing government and highlighted preparations for the Ste. Rose by election on April 5, as the party seeks to regain strength in a 57 seat legislature where the NDP hold 28 seats.

MacGregor town events span ice show to minor hockey day

In MacGregor activities headlined by the Lions Club No No A Million Times No, a March show in Memorial Hall, a Figure Skating Ice Revue this evening at 7 30, and a carnival slated for March 13. Minor hockey day features all five teams starting at noon, alongside a Konspel gala and a community-centre fundraiser with Travelers providing music. Kerry Tomchuk Wins Collegiate Bonspiel

Kerry Tomchuk Bryce Frank Richard Sawatsky and Phillip Davey won the top honor at MacGregor Collegiate bonspiel as 33 rinks competed amid postponed draws from soft ice. They defeated Barry Rodgers J Wood Jack Wright Gaylene Schroeder in the final with teams led by Burt Nancy McFarlane Debbie Borton and Sheila Thompson finishing third.

Day of Prayer Service Set for Friday at Bergthaler Church

An interdenominational World Day of Prayer service will be held Friday March 5 at 2 30 p.m. at Bergthaler Mennonite Church in MacGregor. Everyone is welcome to attend and the theme is A New People for a New Age.

Rosehill Variety Club Involves Elm Notes

Rosehill Variety Club held its February 13, 1971 organizational meeting at the home of Mr and Mrs Bob Schweitz. Officers elected include Donnie Schweitz as president Loig Blyth as vice president Debbie Blyth as secretary Eddie Schweitz as treasurer and Glenda Alanson as club reporter. The group plans uniforms with ties, a demonstration by Debbie Blyth and Glenda Adamson, a speech by Percilla Blyth and Eddie Schweitz, plus a skating party and supper. Members were invited to join by calling 6852736.

Austin Carnival this Saturday at skating rink

Austin and Austin civic groups will hold their annual carnival this Saturday March 6 at the Austin skating rink. The event features races costumes toboggan races broom ball hockey games and a queen contest with prizes for all events. Plan to keep Saturday open for Austin's gala carnival.

Austin UCW Holds Regular Meeting

The Austin U C W met in the church on Thursday February 18 with ten members and one visitor present. Minutes and correspondence were read by Mrs J Gilmour. Plans included cleaning and tuning the piano in the Lower Room and funding ideas.
