Rural and Village Councils Hold Electors Rolls Courts of Revision

Councils of Rural Municipality North Norfolk and the Incorporated Village of MacGregor held Courts of Revision for the 1980 Electors Rolls. Several appeals were heard. none filed for the Village. Actions included by law readings, transfers of property, bylaw readings, and discussion on old age pensions and fire equipment loans.

June Bride Elect Frances Nelson Honored

Friends and neighbors held a miscellaneous shower at Mrs. Jim Jeffries farm for Frances Nelson bride elect of June 17. Winners included cor sage of red tulips by Karl Anderson and pink and white decorations. A later church Annex shower featured yellow rose corsage by Isabelle Ariss and songs by local musicians. Luncheon, tea table with apple blossoms and pink tapers followed.

In Memoriam Harry Shaw

In loving memory of Harry Shaw who died June 17, 1942. The rolling stream of life goes on but the vacant chair recalls his voice smile and time. Ever remembered by his wife and son.

Sixtieth Beaver WMS Anniversary Attended by Over Eighty

More than eighty WMS members and friends from Hartford Ellsmith Southend Katrime and Mac Beaver gathered at Mrs Maurice Smiths home on June 7 to celebrate Beaver WMSs sixtieth anniversary. The program included worship readings by Mrs Harry Dankesreiter a talk by Portage la Prairie’s Mrs James Barrere and a keynote by Mrs B MacKenzie Gladstone Presbyterial president on Overseas Missions. A lunch with a birthday cake followed as Rev 2 led prayers and tea was poured by Mrs Ed Harkness and Mrs E Graham.

Ministers Ordained at Brandon Diocese Sees Large Service

Following a three retreat Ven. HT Bridgett MA MC presented six men to Rt. Rev L A Norns for ordination as deacons and six as priests. Names include deacons W G Chapman D SH Minton RT M L Morgan G W Latmer Thurow and priests F C Coyle G Hicks EH Hyatt H J Pryke F H White C H Wright. Service featured sermon by Rev G ch of Winnipeg and Bishop Norris celebrating Holy Communion. Canon L Adams read the epistle and Rev C L Morgan the gospel. Rev C L Morgan named curate at Holland and Rev R Milburn curate at MacGregor. After St Pauls MacGregor service, St Pauls and Katrine presented Milburn with vestment bag and purse.

Pastor Dickinson Resettles in MacGregor To Lead Bethel Chapel

Rev. Lloyd W. L. Dickinson, former pastor of Portage Pentecostal Church, has moved to MacGregor to continue developing Bethel Chapel. A Winnipeg Bible College graduate (1940) he led Bethel Pentecostal Church in Carman for five years and earlier grew up in Elstow, Saskatchewan. He is a preacher, Bible teacher, children's worker, singer, and trombone player. He married Martet H. G. Cochrane of Dauphin in 1942.

Decoration Day Services Unified for MacGregor Beaver and Katrove

A district meeting plans a combined Decoration Day service at Memorial Hall MacGregor on Sunday July 9 following a June 18 adjustment due to spring conditions. After the service Legion LODE and the public will visit three cemeteries to decorate graves and the Beaver monument. A committee will finalize arrangements and meet Saturday night for details.

Foresters Picnic Delayed to June 25

The annual Court Hampton Canadian Order of Foresters picnic at MacGregor is postponed from June 18 to June 25. AH members should note the new date and attend church services at Beaver and MacGregor United Churches next Sunday. Communion will be held at the regular services. High School notes mention Mrs Dickinson’s business training and prior positions at T. Eaton Co. Dauphin. The Dickinsons relocate with sons Ralph and Ivan as they settle into their new home.

Portage Hospital Graduates Ten Nurses in Evening Ceremony

Local girls form the graduating class of ten nurses at Portage Hospital honored in a service at United Church of Portage Prairie. Dr. Clark spoke on service and training, Dr. Atkinson shared views from experience, and awards highlighted two years of study with bouquets presented by ten children. The event closed with a lunch and a dance for guests and graduates.

Baseball week keeps Cubs and Seniors busy on road

Cubs drop 6-4 to Oakville then fall 11-9 at Neepawa and win 14-1 against Dauphin in two exhibitions. Monday 7-6 loss to Pygey league cont. Seniors lose 8-7 to Shilo then win 12-11 vs same team. Colin Shaw homers twice as MacGregor bats pace. Seniors attend Gladstone tournament still away at press time.

High School Chatter from the 1949-50 Reporter

The weekly column notes four students in Grades I to XH returning from England and a preseason break. Shirley Stitchlow visits the coast to see grandparents while Patsy recovers from a broken wrist. Exams begin at MacGregor School as readers are urged to tune out noise and enjoy the last paragraphs of the year.
