Town Notes From A Rural Ledger Style Update

Weather was mild this past week with a cold Wednesday. A goose near Austin suffered a damaged wing and cannot fly. John kept it in a fire reservoir behind the Drug Store, where locals feed it. The old champions hold top honors in a game. younger players challenge the seniors in scoring. A few old-timers hosted a MacGregor Club meeting with low turnout. Hardy’s supplied a green iron chair. Town exterior upgrades include Royal Cafe and Red and White Store getting new stucco. S. R. Lamb’s home will receive finishing touches. Old Cy’s duck-hunting tale ends with him atop a barrel after bailing out the horses. The George Davis and Rivelhan houses are being torn down, opening a vacant lot. A fine concert at the Medical Mall drew Brandon-area talent and a standout eleven-year-old accordionist. The new hotel remains under construction as plans advance for a big baseball day with rides and a show.

Beaver friends extend their sympathy to the McDonald family in the loss of a wife and mother. Morton spent last weekend with her parents at Elphinstone. Jean Mackie and Aine Stone were weekend guests at the home of Aine's father Roy Stone. Steve Wollaski and children and Miss Eva Zacharias of Ft William are visiting Roy Stone.

MacGregor School Sports Day Weather And Team Spirit

In four innings the score was 29 21 with MacGregor behind yet our girls kept practicing during recess. The Cubs boys perform well and will be featured elsewhere. Wednesday 31st MacGregor held its school sports day despite poor weather with Norfolk School attending. field day results will appear next week due to advertising limits.

Community Calendar June Events At Local Halls

A series of gatherings and fundraisers are listed for June. A United Church Annex tea on June 10 from 3 to 6 pm asks for donations to the Produce Table with proceeds supporting the playground. A Barn Dance in Nels Hall on June 28 features Paul W A. at Mrs Trinder’s home on June 13 at 2 30 pm the MacGregor Calf Club hosts. WLS meets June 12 at 8 30 pm at Miss Eilene Marsh’s home. WMS meets at Mrs Karl Anderson Katrime Picnic is scheduled for June 23 with an evening dance to Telford’s Orchestra.

Sudden Death of Beaver Lady Shocks Community

Mrs. George McDonald of the Beaver district died Friday June 2 1950 from a heart attack while outdoors. Born Margaret Sutherland in Caithnesshire Scotland she married George McDonald in 1914, lived in Moose Jaw Swit Cutcent Katrime then Beaver. Survived by husband two sons three daughters two sisters two brothers five grandchildren. Funeral June 5 at Mac Gregor United Church Rev C D Rupp led service. Burial Beaver cemetery with McKillops in charge.

Flood Relief Show At Tivoli MacGregor

A Sunday matinee at Tivoli Theatre MacGregor will screen The Doctor and the Girl for flood relief. Proceeds go to the Manitoba Flood Relief Fund with all costs covered by sponsors. Admission is regular, and event supports rural and village councils Austin and MacGregor.

MacGregor Seniors blank Carberry 14 0 in Wednesday action

MacGregor seniors crushed Carberry 14 0 as Gerry Cobbe allowed no hits in four innings while Walter Allan and Don Mitchell contributed on the mound. Don Barber led MacGregor with three doubles and a single, Cairns and Palmer added three hits each, and Cobbe, Allan, Frank and Snaith added runs and a triple. Carberry’s Gerry Dewhurst held MacGregor to one run through four before the flood of runs.
