Reunion With Sister After 57 Years
James Halkyard of Austin Manitoba and Beatrice Whiting of Brandon Manitoba reunite with sister Mrs. Lilian Hill of Chadderton Lancashire England after 57 years apart. Halkyard came to Canada in 1914 and Whiting last saw her sister in 1927 in Carnevale Saskatchewan. They gathered July 9 1971 to celebrate Mrs. Whiting’s birthday in the Halkyard and Wicklund homes with Hill’s niece Mrs. Jessie Rayner visiting from Regina.

Threshermen’s Reunion And Rodeo Underway

Festival of Arts Attracts Large Manitoba Attendance
About 175 participants including over 100 from Rural Manitob a attended the Manitoba Festival of Arts in Neepawa from July 4 to 16. Classes covered painting music ceramics photography creative drama and creative dance at Neepawa Area Collegiate Institute. Eunice Sims and Jack Hay of MacGregor were among attendees. Participants extended days beyond 9 to 5 as weather allowed, with high regard from Gordon Hancock of the University of Manitoba Extension Division. The festival featured outside activities, a Saturday Mardi Gras with Polka Kings and Variations, a two day sidewalk sale by the Chamber of Commerce, and an Inter-Parish Church service at the United Church plus a standing ovation for Sepha and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
