Reunion and Rodeo At Austin Next Week

The 17th annual Thresher men's Reunion and Central Manitoba Stampede begin next Wednesday at the Manitoba Agricultural Museum in Austin and run four days through Saturday. Events include vintage steam and threshing contests, parades, rodeo acts, pow wow with Chief Peguis Dancers, Indian village viewings, and daily dancing with the Melodiers.

Austin Community Centre District formation approved by council

Plans to form a community centre district at Austin were presented July 6 to the Rural Municipality of North Norfolk council. By laws authorize a joint district with MacGregor, establish a community centre, and finance $30,000 via 20 year debentures to finish the Austin Rink. Delegates were approved for a Central District meeting and drainage and road issues were noted for follow up.

Town Happenings and Regional Plans Amid Rain and Sports

A rain short burst cooled weekend weather as haying begins and crops improve. Town groups plan the Thresher's Reunion and Rodeo at the Museum next Thursday. Citizens seek a $30,000 loan for rink waiting rooms while schools host recreation director led activities and a canoeing clinic at Jackson Lake. Community Centre work advances slowly with footings underway. Football season looms with the Bombers opening next week and games scheduled on Channel 7 from Toronto to Hamilton.

C.G.LT Finishes Year with Village Activities

The CGIT ended the year with a Mystery Mother meeting and a Mother and Daughter banquet. Donations from May Cancer fund drive totaled 238.54 and Clean-a-thon proceeds of 165.87 went to the Community Center. Special thanks to Mrs Olito and to families aiding with the truck, yard, and driving.

J C Thackray president of the Canada Safety Council announces Farm Safety Week planned for July 25 31 to alert rural inhabitants to recognize and eliminate farm hazards. The campaign notes most accidents arise from sacrificed safety for speed. Canada statistics show farm machine fatalities rose to 110 in 1969, many aged 10 to 19. interested groups can obtain information from the Canada Safety Council Ottawa.

Langruth Students To Attend Gladstone

Langruth public meeting of June 22, 1971 reviewed votes on closing Langruth High School. Board kept policy to close by June 30, 1971 and decided to bus Langruth students to Gladstone starting September 7, 1971. A clerks typist position at Wm. Morton Collegiate was offered to Valerie Smith but declined. Maureen Galloway was appointed June 21, 1971.
