Manitoba Telephone System Plans New Rates Schedule

Manitoba Telephone System seeks a new rate schedule arguing postwar expansion raised costs and plant investment. From 1948 to 1954 depreciation, interest, and government investment grew while revenues from rentals and long distance traffic did not cover expenses, prompting a proposed rate increase. The system notes a 98 percent employee rise and tripled payroll amid modernization and grants in lieu of taxes.
