Ladies Curling Bonspiel Opens February Nineteenth

MacGregor Ladies' Curling Club hosts its annual bonspiel starting next Friday and ending Sunday night. Three events offer trophies with a $12 entry per rink including a Saturday night smorgasbord. Mrs. R. Thompson Heads WI at MacGregor meeting

The MacGregor WI annual meeting on January 21 at Mrs. Charles Pennell’s home drew 16 members and one visitor. Reports show a successful year with weddings catered, an Easter bazaar, a fair float, and donations totaling 860 to various groups. Officers elected include Mrs. R. Thompson president and Mrs. Hotel treasurer. quilting led by Mrs. L. Anderson and Mrs. Grove.

Men's Bonspiel Opens In MacGregor District Today

The four day MacGregor men's bonspiel begins today with the old rink expected to be busy until Sunday night. A buffet luncheon is planned for Memorial Hall Friday afternoon as games run through the weekend.

MacGregor Intermediates lost both games last week while showing fight. Pilot Mound won 7 to 3 with four goals in the final period. Paul Gilmore led MacGregor scoring, Murray Pierrepont stood out in net. In Holland, MacGregor fell 6 to 0 after another strong effort.

Businessmen Attend Demonstration in Winnipeg

E. Cox and E. K. W. Cox traveled to Winnipeg last Thursday for a dealers demonstration at Versa Tile Mfg. Co. The firm showcased new farming machinery planned for production this year, including a 90 to 100 hp four wheel tractor and a 185 hp tractor, plus several new field implements. About 200 dealers from across Canada toured the 378,000 square foot plant, which employs roughly 650 people. The company, formed in 1946, notes 25 years of progress.

Katrime Spiel Opens February 22 at Katrime Curling Club

At the University of Wisconsin Madison James C Lowe and 2,203 foreign students from 103 countries study alongside 33,346 Americans. Asia leads the foreign enrollment with 281 from Hong Kong and 237 from India. others include China Canada the United Kingdom Nigeria and Thailand among many nations.

Quota System in Transitional Period

The Canadian Wheat Board seeks a market oriented shift in grain quotas storage and movement with tight control from elevator to shipping ports. J L Deibfried executive director told Portage la Prairie farmers the transitional quota system needs refinement toward timely placement of grain and competition with other exporters. Proposals by a federal committee are already in effect with more to come next year aiming for efficiency equity and stable farm income. Three per cent payments on the first 10000 of sales would fund stabilization when receipts fall below a five year average.
