Botulism Outbreak in Manitoba Ducks Cools
Authorities report botulism deaths among ducks and waterfowl in Manitoba are waning. Resources Minister C H Whitney said ducks in Northern Manitoba appear to escape the outbreak as drought without water in potholes and sloughs forced many to migrate north. The illness stems from bacteria thriving in warm shallow water with algae, and cooler fall weather plus rain are cited as antidotes.
