Manitoba issues detailed auto insurance rate schedule

The Manitoba cabinet approved orders-in-council setting basic compulsory auto insurance effective November 1 for all vehicles. Rates cover commercial vehicles motorcycles antique cars trucks buses taxis trailers ambulances and hearses with varied groups by weight use and year. Lowest rates start around 58 for pleasure motorcycles and 123 for some trucks while higher rates reach up to 640 for certain driving classes. antique cars pay 15. trailers and taxicabs have flat rates by type and region.

A new cattle breeding method by United Simmental Ltd in Cardston Alberta transfers embryos to Herefords to produce pure bred Simmental calves next May. The process aims to multiply offspring from superior cows in one to two years, potentially boosting North American beef cattle numbers and industry profits.

Rhineland Declared Unitary School Division in Manitoba

Acting on a local petition the Manitoba cabinet declares Rhineland School Division No. 18 a unitary division effective January 1. This leaves Fort La Rosse and Garden Valley as the province’s two non unitary divisions with separate elementary and secondary boards. Non unitary divisions miss foundation grant support, while unitary divisions are governed by a single board. The petition, supported by a majority of students, prompted the cabinet action at a recent meeting.

Holland Welder Cashes In On Sunflower Expansion

Holland's General Repair Shop pipes up in a sunflower growth boom. August Timmerman, with Central Plains Inc and local rep Emmanuel Van de Velde, begins making sunflower harvesting attachments for combines. Orders from 12 farmers. expected extra $5,000 income. Regional officials cite Holland moving into a major sunflower belt with 81 more farmers in Victoria and South Norfolk regions. Rapeseed Faces New Weed Threat in Saskatchewan Fields

Professor Ross Ashford of the University of Saskatchewan says cleavers, a trailing weed, has been found in several areas including Arbors Field Lloydminster and Alvena. Infestations may reduce rapeseed grade, with some seeds contaminated by more than one percent weed seed. Scientists pursue chemical control. farmers warned to consider planting rapeseed in affected fields next year. Manitoba Sets New Minimum Wage Rates This November

An order-in-council approved at a mid-week cabinet meeting increases Manitoba minimum wage to 1.65 dollars per hour starting November 1. Under 18 and inexperienced workers see raised rates of 1.40 and 1.50 respectively for the first three months, with 1.60 for the second three months. The standard 1.65 rate applies after six months of work.

Recreationally Speaking Ends Summer Activities

Our final column of the summer thanks Fred Clarke Maurice Hay and Doug McTavish for their aid to the program. Gratitude also goes to Mr McGregor for cooperation as recreation directors reflect on a season of activity in the municipality. A July presentation at Austin Central noted Milk Truck Theatre Express Company entertained about 70. An archery clinic was canceled due to last minute instructor changes. Physical fitness night returns with an 8 pm session at MacGregor Collegiate gym.
